Event: Big Sur International Marathon – and related events

Date: Sunday, April 27, 2008

Place: Pfeiffer Multi-use Facility in Big Sur (race proceeds north to Carmel)

Time: 6:45 a.m. (Highway One is closed to the public from 4 a.m. until 1 p.m.)

What: A competitive chip-timed marathon (26.2 miles), a marathon relay (5 person teams), a 5K (3.1 miles) and three non-competitive fitness events of 21, 10.6 and 9 miles (can be walked or run). Approximately 12,000 entrants participate.

Event Festivities: The Marathon weekend also includes a two-day Health and Fitness Expo, Friday and Saturday, April 25-26, and the JUST RUN!® Just Kids 3K fun run in downtown Monterey, on Saturday, April 26.

Description: The world-renowned Big Sur International Marathon takes place along California’s scenic Highway One, Sunday, April 27. Regarded as the “Best Destination Marathon” by the Ultimate Guide to Marathons, the race will field 4,500 marathoners, and an additional 8,000 participants in five events: a marathon relay, a 21-Miler, 10.6-Miler, 9-Miler and a 5K race. Participants enjoy live music along the course – from classical to rock, Taiko drums to quartets, and more. Spectators can cheer on the runners and join in the marathon excitement and activities at the finish line.
