DRESS POLICY

2015-2016

Students are expected to adhere to the standards of cleanliness and dress that are compatible with the requirements of a productive and safe school environment. Those standards generally acceptable to the community as appropriate in a public setting shall be the determining criteria governing student dress.

A student’s appearance, mode of dress, or condition of personal hygiene shall not be permitted to disrupt the educational process or constitute a threat to the health or safety of others.

The principal may make reasonable accommodations to this Policy based on a student’s religious beliefs or medical conditions.

Therefore, the following rules shall be followed:

  1. The shoulder width of shirts or blouses must completely cover undergarments. No spaghetti strap tops, tube tops, muscle tops, or tank tops are allowed;
  2. Net shirts, bare midriffs, or other revealing attire are not acceptable;

Short dresses, short skirts, or short shorts will not be allowed;

  1. No underwear shall be revealed;
  2. Headgear, hats, scarfs, bonnets, bandanas or sunglasses are not to be worn in the building except for medical and/or safety reasons;
  3. No clothing, jewelry or buttons with letters, initials, symbols, or wording that is obscene, offensive, inflammatory, or detrimental to the instructional process are allowed; this includes symbols representing drug paraphernalia.
  4. No gang-related clothing, accessories or symbols as identified by local law enforcement agencies will be allowed..
  5. All students in grades 9-12 will be required to display school issued identification badges with their picture and their name while on the school grounds. A $1.00 fee will be required for a temporary replacement and a $5.00 fee will be required for a permanent replacement.
  6. No clothing, jewelry, book bags or other items may be worn which are associated with intimidation, violence or violent groups, and about which students have been notified.

TOPS:

ALL TOPS SHOULD BE POLO OR OXFORD STYLED. THE TOP CAN BE OF ANY COLOR, BUT MUST BE SOLID (NO STRIPES). EMBLEMS ON SHIRTS CAN NOT BE MORE THAN 3” IN L X W. ALL SHIRTS TAILS MUST FIT AT THENATURAL WAIST. IF THE SHIRT TAIL IS MORE THAN 2” BELOW THE NATURAL WAIST, THEN THE SHIRT MUST BE TUCKED IN. A SCHOOL SPIRIT, ATHLETIC SHIRT MAY BE WORN THROUGHOUT THE WEEK AS WELL.

BOTTOMS:

ALL PANTS / SHORTS / SKIRTS MUST BE NAVY BLUE, BLACK, KHAKI, OR (BLUE JEANS MAY BE WORN ON FRIDAYS OR ESTABLISHED ATHLETIC / SPIRIT DAYS). SKIRTS / SHORTS MUST BE BELOW OR NOT MORE THAN 3” ABLOVE THE KNEE. PANTS CAN NOT HAVE ANY HOLES IN THEM. SWEATS AND BASKETBALL SHORTS ARE NOT ALLOWED.

LEGGINGS / YOGA PANTS ARE NOT ALLOWED UNLESS BEING WORN AS AN UNDERGARMENT.

FOOTWEAR:

Style: Athletic shoes, laced shoes and/or shoe boots, loafers, dress shoes, or other closed toes/closed heel shoes. Mules described as closed toes and open heel are appropriate. Students shall not wear house slippers, flip-flops, slides or any other type of footwear that could constitute a safety hazard.
