Guest Speaker

Charity Shelton, M.S., CCC-SLP, CBIST has been a Speech-Language Pathologist for 18 years specializing in evaluation and treatment of communication, cognitive, and swallowing deficits in individuals with neurological injuries. Charity has completed and published research in several journals regarding evaluation and treatment of individuals with traumatic brain injury.She is a Brain Injury Specialist and Trainer through the Brain Injury Association of America and has been heavily involved in advocacy for individuals and families coping with brain injuries. Charity is a seasoned presenter in the area of neurorehabilitation and regularly teaches at the local, state, and national levels.

Overview

Charity Shelton will discuss standardized and nonstandardized evaluation of cognitive disorders post acquired brain injury (stroke, TBI, other neuro diagnoses). Assessment will be discussed relative to mildly, moderately, and severely/profoundly impaired cognition. Additionally, appropriate approaches for assessment based on setting will be reviewed (i.e., acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient, home health, and long term care). Finally, Charity will present evaluation report writing techniques and treatment planning based on evaluation results. Throughout the presentation, video presentations and case studies will be provided.
