1.Background

The EHRI VRE (or portal as it is generally known) is an online environment that provides users with access to rich information about Holocaust-related archives and collections gathered across the EHRI project. It further provides users with a range of tools to find, explore, organise and share such information.

Work on the EHRI portal has been underway since the beginning of the project, and all its main components have already been described elsewhere. Most notably D20.3 details the portal's authorisation and authentication infrastructure and its integrated helpdesk; D20.2 provides a broad overview of all its end-user an administrative functionalities; D19.2 describes the Metadata Registry on which the portal is built; and D19.3 presents the multi-lingual search interface that underlies the portal's search and browse functionalities.[1]D20.4, finally, provides a description of a previous beta release of the Portal, and D20.5 gives details about a usability testing exercise that was undertaken in the context of joint user/developer workshop.[2]

The present deliverable is a textual wrapper around the final release of the EHRI portal. The official launch of the EHRI portal occurred during the final Presentation of the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure that took place on 26 March 2015 at the Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften.
