EUROBANK EFG STEDIONICA INVESTS IN ECOLOGY IN PANCEVO
Narodna Basta becomes “Green Pillar of Defence” against pollution
Pancevo, March 14, 2007 - Eurobank EFG Stedionica and Pancevo Municipality today inked the agreement on the donation in the value of RSD 6,000,000 which will be invested into refurbishment and reconstruction of Narodna Basta Park in Pancevo. With this donation, Eurobank EFG Stedionica, as a socially responsible company which has two branches in Pancevo, is investing efforts to contribute and encourage resolving of pressing ecological problems in this town.
In order to achieve that Narodna Basta, as a central park in Pancevo, becomes the “green pillar of defence” between the town centre, the hospital and the industrial zone, in the next few months 180 new plants will be seeded, 160 existing trees will be replaced and grass covered areas will be reconstructed upon which tall trees are to create a protection belt from noise, dust and exhaust gases. In this way, Basta will recuperate its old glory because this garden used to be a favorite place of Pancevo citizens.
Symbolic start of works in Narodna Basta was marked today when president of Pancevo Municipality Mr. Srdjan Mikovic and a member of the Executive Council of Eurobank EFG Stedionica Mr. Miroslav Pivic seeded a first plant.

We have recognized ecological problems in Pancevo which have negative influence on the health and quality of living of Pancevo citizens and therefore with this donation we wanted to give our contribution in order to improve this situation. We believe that active engagement in ecology sector is inseparable part of business operations of every serious company which aims at becoming a socially responsible ‘citizen” and we plan further development and improvement of environmental protection-related projects in Serbian towns in which we operate in the following years, Mr. Stavros Ioannou, president of the Executive Council of Eurobank EFG Stedionica stated and added that Eurobank EFG Group is very actively participating in this sector back from 2003, trying to influence its business partners, clients and the public beside participating in actual projects in surroundings in which this bank operates.
Social responsibility projects have been successfully implemented for years in Greece and in all countries where Bank operates. Environmental protection represents one of basic values of Eurobank EFG Group and is a part of a wider strategy directed to make the contribution to the community and to support culture, health, and education and sports sectors. Since June 2005, Eurobank EFG Group is an active member of the Financial Initiative of the Environmental Protection Programme of the United Nations, international network of financial organization aiming at environmental protection and providing sustainable development.
The campaign for the refurbishment of Narodna Basta in Pancevo is a part of the more comprehensive corporate social responsibility project of this bank entitled “Invest into European Values” envisaged for the health, education and environmental protection sectors. One part of this project which refers to ecology, arrangement of the existing ones and making new green areas in central town zones throughout Serbia, so-called Eurobank EFG PARKOVI, and Bank plans to continue to implement in towns in which it operates in the following period as well. First out of several works which are part of the plan was the arrangement of Botanical Garden Jevremovac in Belgrade i.e. the establishment of Eurobank EFG Garden.
