ETSI GRID Standardization Meeting

Wednesday 24May 2006 in ETSI Headquarters, Sophia Antipolis

Dear All,

I am pleased to invite you to aGRID standardization meeting, planned for Wednesday 24May 2006 in ETSI Headquarters (Sophia-Antipolis, France).

GRID is one of the major strategic topic for ETSI. This technology will play an important role in the convergence of IT sector and traditional telecommunications. A short term advantage is to improve interoperability of different GRID Solutions. ETSI can play a pivotal role in cooperation with existing IT Standards Development Organizations (GGF, EGA, W3C, OASIS, WS-I…) to foster the uptake of GRID technology in electronic communications and services.

GRID is happening today inside company networks in a growing number of industry sectors. A natural extension of this take-up is the development of cross company collaboration and virtual organizations.

The European Commission sees this as an important issue and are making funds available to support work in this areaand are calling for consensus-based standards, with clear IPR rules, etc...

According to the Business Opportunities for Telecom Operators in the Grid market project "...Telecom operators can play an important role in the emerging Grid market, as they own large networks and computing resources. Furthermore, they have established customer relationships and they have accounting/ billing experience. These factors enable telecom operators to become resource providers, brokers and/or the users of Grids..."

The main issues to be discussed at this first meeting are:

  • EC support in GRID standardization, IST Projects and European Technology platform NESSI
  • ETSI GRID Starter Group and its ETSI Members supporters
  • Existing GRID activities in SDOs and Fora
  • Work programme of ETSI in GRID standardization, role of ETSI Services(Standards Production Area (SPA), PlugtestsTMand PTCC)
  • Participant’s presentations on GRID view and activities
  • Panel discussion on GRID standardization work programme

Registration for this meeting can be made online at:

I am looking forward to welcoming you to thisOpen GRID standardization meeting in ETSI headquarters on 24May 2006.
