Purpose: To help students develop their writing skills and prepare for the final exam at the end of the third year (the Proficiency Composition Task is a 300-350-word well-organized opinion/argumentative essay produced in 45 minutes). To discuss and analyse. To gain courage and confidence. Besides, all the important steps of essay writing (as a preparation for Essay Writing 2) will be introduced.

Methods: During the course, we are going to analyse several types/parts of essays, scrutinize student papers presented with comments in pairs, and work in co-operating pairs/groups.

Conditions of the pass mark at the end of the term: active participation in class, writing the mock exam paper, achieving at least 60% of the maximum score: 75 points, minimum score: 45points.

Individual in-class papers (2x10)20 points

Attendance:Any three classes may be skipped,except the occasion of the in-class (mock)paper (date is fixed for April 16!).Come prepared each time (even if you were absent the previous time): your thorough reading and commentary will help improve your peer’s writing. Bring along your paperand your commentson your peer’s writingboth electronically (pendrive) and on paper for each class(it is only this way you can get the maximum score).
