Español Make-up Work

If you would like to make up the points for ANY homework assignment that you didn’t do (if the gradebook shows a 0 for the assignment, you may not turn in the old assignment), then this is your chance. You can choose to go to any 2 of the following websites or go to a Spanish-speaking business or person in your community. You must complete 2 different activities to get full points back. Follow the instructions for the options you choose.

Sitios de web (= websites)

Go to one of the following websites:

1.  http://www.colby.edu/~bknelson/SLC/index.php (Choose a topic that we have covered from the list on the right. Complete the activity and print, copy, or send me an email)

2.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/spanish/mividaloca/ (Play an episode of “La Vida Loca”, then make a list of all of the vocabulary that you learned while watching the episode. The list must include all Spanish words and phrases AND what they mean in English).

3.  http://www.lyricstraining.com/search?qry= (Listen to any of the songs in Spanish, then play the Karaoke game. Play at the “Beginning” level. Use the “Help” button to see how to control the game. After playing the game, copy down your results (your score), then close the score display and scroll back up through the song. Copy the words that you had to fill in, and write their meaning in English. Turn in the copy to me.)

4.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/mundo/ (Click on any news story that interests you. Go through the article, finding words that you know or look familiar. List these words on a sheet of paper or word document. At the bottom of the list, tell me what the article was about (the main idea), who or what is involved, and where it takes place. Use this site http://www.wordchamp.com/lingua2/Reader.do to copy the URL of the article where it says “Enter a Spanish website address” and you can mouse over any word to get its meaning in English. Hand in the paper or Word document to me.)

5.  http://zachary-jones.com/zambombazo/tag/lolcats/ (click on any LOL cat picture that interests you. Read the words that are on the LOL cat poster and any words that may describe it. Tell me what the “Theme” of the picture is and why it is funny to you. Make a list of ALL Spanish words on the poster and their meaning in English. Turn in your answers to me.)

Tu Comunidad

1.  Go to a business (restaurant, grocery store, etc.) and introduce yourself en español. Tell the person there that you are learning Spanish and would like to bring something (an advertisement, brochure, pamphlet, menu) back to class with you. Take a look at whatever you have and find 10 new words that you can figure out on your own. Write down the 10 words and their meaning in English. Bring both the item and your list to me.

2.  Talk to anyone you know in your community that is a NATIVE Spanish speaker (native means that it was the first language that they learned). Have a short conversation with the person in Spanish (USE WHAT YOU KNOW!). Then write the person’s name down and summarize the information that you talked about (in English). Include an email address or contact information in case I need to confirm that you spoke with him/her.
