Title: ESOL/Functional skills tutor

Reporting to: BBO Project Co-ordinator

Salary:£21,057 pro rata

Hours: 20 Hours a week

Contract- 3 years fixed term contract

Probation period:4 months

Annual Leave:21 days plus all statutory Bank holidays

Pension:RMC offer a pension scheme with Scottish Widows and contribute 3%

Purpose of the Job:

RMC will be delivering two projects under the ‘Building Better Opportunities’(BBO) programme funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and Big Lottery (BL). We will be working with Steps to Work to provide support for over 24 year olds and with Heart of England Community Foundation to support targeted communities, both with improving employability.

As part of the role you will plan and implement an engaging, high quality curriculum for learners for whom English is not their first language. You will provide high quality ESOL lessons at a range of levels from pre-entry level to level 3, taking into account individual student needs, abilities, background and experience and to embed employability into your teaching.

Principal Tasks

Key responsibilities (but not an exhaustive list) include:
-Plan and deliver high quality teaching, learning and assessment for learners to ensure compliance with curriculum best practice and quality targets.
-Develop and maintain accurate and detailed learner records, individual learning plans and progress tracking.
-Regular attendance and active contribution at project meetings.
-Contribution to robust self-assessment and quality improvement procedures including learner satisfaction.
-Work in conjunction with stakeholders and partners.
-You will be required to complete all necessary administration related to the programmes.

A DBS check will be carried out for this post.

Flexibility

  • In order to deliver the stated aims of for this post, a degree of flexibility is needed and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above. Such duties will fall within the scope of the job and be directly related to ESF-funded BBO activitieswithin the appropriate pay grade. The job description will therefore be subject to periodic review with the post holder to ensure it accurately reflects the duties that are being performed

Person Specification

Essential
  • As a minimum a CELTA (or equivalent ESOL qualification for teaching adults)
  • A minimum of GCSE grade C or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Experience of teaching ESOL to adults at a variety of levels and in a variety of learning/training environments.
  • Ability to plan and deliver inspirational teaching/training and learning sessions appropriate to adult learners from a variety of cultural and educational backgrounds using a variety of teaching methods currently considered good practice
  • Ability to evaluate and track learner progress
  • Ability to use ICT and E-learning in teaching and course planning
  • Ability to maximise retention and achievement of learners
  • Effective communication and inter-personal skills including standard of English appropriate to refugees.
  • Understanding and commitment to equality and diversity as it applies to service delivery
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety
