Erica Drazen, ScD

Erica Drazen is the Managing Partner of the Emerging Practices Group in the Health Care Sector at CSC. The mission of the Emerging Practices Group is monitor market trends and to evaluate emerging operational practices and technologies that have the potential to improve performance of the health industries. The Emerging Practices group develops white papers on industry issues, conducts research, develops new tools and services for use by CSC’s health care clients, and works with clients that want to advance ahead of the market.

Dr. Drazen’s areas of professional practice involve helping delivery organizations create information management strategies, redesign processes, and use information technology to improve current clinical performance and meet future needs. Her research interests include information technologies to support patient safety, improve workforce efficiency, and enable patients to manage their health. Her recent research has included a survey of how health delivery executives are responding to the economic crisis and a report on the next generation of hospital care.

She has been active in many professional organizations, served as Chair of the Computer-Based Patient Records Institute and the Center for Health Care Information Management and was a founding trustee of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). She has been an active participant with Scottsdale Institute (SI) and its predecessor organization. The results of her early collaborative research with SI was published in a book, Strategies for Integrated Health Care: Emerging Practices in Information Management and Cross-Continuum Care. She is also a co-author of Patient Care Information Systems, Successful Design and Implementation, and author of a chapter in the first and second editions of Electronic Health Records, a Guide for Clinicians and Administrators. She was co-author of the American Hospitals Association’s report When I’m 64: How Boomers Will Change Health Care—containing seminal research on the impact of the boomers on demand for health care. Erica has served on the National Advisory Committee for the Robert Wood Johnson program Transforming Care at the Bedside and is currently on the advisory board for the Center for Health Technology Leadership. Dr. Drazen’s recent research has included a survey of how health delivery executives are responding to the economic crisis and a report on the next generation of hospital care.

Dr. Drazen received her doctorate (ScD) in Health Policy and Management from Harvard School of Public Health, a M.S in Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.S in Engineering from Tufts University.
