Ariel: Oh my.
Eric: She spoke, speak again beautiful creature. She is as bright as the stars up in heaven, but not just a star, a shooting star, a wondrous shooting star that smiles down at the mesmerized people bellow.
Ariel: Dear Eric, why must you be human? You live on land and I live in the sea? If we can’t live together in a world, then know I love you, and I’ll get rid of my fin and become a human soon.
Eric: Should I continue to listen, or let her know I’m here?
Ariel: It’s our difference, human and mermaid, that separates us. I’m a mermaid, not a human, why does the difference between us matter? It’s not what creature we are but the love between us. I wish I were a human. What’s the difference between us? We underwater creatures are known to as fish, even though we are all different, we are a type of fish. If I were human, instead of mermaid we would be together forever without my fin. One day I’ll be a human and in exchange for me leaving my home, which isn’t yours take my everlasting love, take me.
Eric: I’ll take you at your word. Say I’m a merman and I’ll transform myself. Then I’ll never be human again.
Ariel: Who’s listening to my private thoughts? Who’s talking to me?
Eric: I’m not sure what I should call myself. I hate my name because it isn’t a name if a merman and therefore hateful to itself. If I could write it, I’ tear it in an instance.
Ariel: I haven’t heard your voice a lot. I’m not sure if you’re Eric, but you sound very familiar.
Are you really Eric, not someone else?
Eric: If you don’t want me to be, I’m not.
Ariel: How did you find me, who told you where to look? Your castle is heavy with guards how did you get past them? The ocean isn’t the place for you to be. You don’t know what danger could be ashore.
Eric: I swam on love’s current to find you; no beach-ward current will keep me away.
Ariel: You’re not aware of what could happen if someone sees you.
Eric: There’s more danger in your eyes than in the sea. You look so sweet; I’m shielded from their hostility.
Ariel: The people would think you were insane if they saw you here, talking to me, a mermaid.
Eric: It’s night, they can’t see me. And if you love me let them find me here. It would be torture to for death to be prolonged without your love, I’d rather be dead.
Ariel: What led you to me?
Eric: Love. He gave me directions and I gave him eyes. He led me to you.
Ariel: You know that the moon’s out and the sky’s dark, otherwise you wouldn’t be here.
You heard me talk about you tonight. I wouldn’t want you to hear what I said about you if it were bad, but what I’ve said wasn’t meant to hurt you, it was a complement. Do you love me? I think you’ll say that you do and I’ll believe you. If you swear you’ll be lying to me. I know many that don’t take love seriously. Eric, if you so say you love me say it like you actually mean it, but if you think that my love to you isn’t loyal, please say that you do not love me. I’ll be sad, but hopefully someday I’ll get over it. If you treat me the right way I won’t be such a flirt. The truth is Eric, I am fond of you. Trust me, my behavior is nothing now, I could be much worse. Many women have loved you that are human, but I’m the furthest distance away. I should’ve been more secretive, I’ll admit, but you overheard me talking about you, and I was aware that you’re my true love. Ariel: Don’t swear by the moon, it’s not constant, it changes frequently. If you were swore by the moon then your love would change too.

Ariel: Wait, I’m thrilled you’ll swear your life for me, but I can’t accept this “swear” tonight it’s too harsh, too soon I should say it’s like the waves of the ocean, which can flow one way or the other. Eric: By 9 o’clock.
Ariel: Okay I’ll be here, I promise. It’ll seem like twenty-years until then.

Ariel: It’s almost morning. I would have left now, but nothing is closer than that crab on the shore, Lets watch it waddle its way to the ocean, it looks like an oversized sea shell, that is drifted away by the current, so jealous of the other shells.
Eric: I would if I were your sea shell.
Ariel: Aww, so would I, although I would be unbelievably thrilled with so much cherishing. Good night Eric! Being with you is wonderful, but I need to say good bye until tomorrow! [Exit]
Eric: Let sleep take over and let peace into your heart. If I were sleep and peace, it’d be a wonderful rest. Now I’ll go to the priest and ask him for help as well as tell him of my good luck.
