Equation editor suggestions

To save time by using the mouse less consider the following:

Use TAB or SHIFT+TAB to move forward or backward (down & up for fractions, etc.).

Spacing: When in the style math the spacing is automatic. If you want more space use

CTRL+ALT+ SPACEBARfor 1-point space

CTRL+ SPACEBAR for 1/6th of an “M” space

CTRL+SHIFT+SPACEBARfor 1/3rd of an “M” space

Styles: To change styles from math to text within equation editor (or Math Type)

CTRL+SHIFT+Efor English text

CTRL+SHIFT+= to go back to MATH

CTRL+SHIFT+Bmakes the characters bold which is useful to signify vectors or matrices

CTRL+SHIFT+G makes the keyboard type in Greek characters (see below)

You can also use keyboard shortcuts to change the style assigned to the next character that you type. When you type the shortcut, the status bar tells you that a special mode is in effect. After you have inserted one character, Equation Editor reverts to the previous style. Use

CTRL+Bto make the next character bold for a vector or matrix

CTRL+Gmakes the next character a Greek character(for capital Greek letter add the shift)

Accessing the Equation Editor toolbar using keys

Shortcut to open Equation Editor

To make a shortcut to open Equation Editor, right click on the tool bar and go to “Customize”

Click “Commands”

Then “Keyboard…”

Then “Insert”

and InsertEquation

Place your cursor in the “Press new shortcut key:”

and press CTRL+SHIFT+E

Select “Assign”

Then Close out.

From then on whenever you want to use the Equation Editor of Math Type you can keep your hands on the keep board and press CTRL+SHIFT+E.
