Title:Teacher Assistant

Department:Child Care Center

Reports To:Center Director

Position Description: The Teacher Assistant’s primary responsibility is to supervise children in their care and provide learning support and guidance. This role assists the Lead Teacher of the classroom with development and implementation of education plans as well as identifies and solves issues with the educational, social, and emotional development of the children. He/she is also responsible for creating relationships and partnerships with parents, as well as encouraging parent participation and involvement. This role is responsible for compliance with all state and local licensing codes and regulations.

  1. Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing lesson plans and learning goals
  • Maintain accurate, complete and timely client and agency records; complete meal and attendance records
  • Foster a positive and collaborative learning environment where the unique needs of all children are met
  • Arrange educational activities outside of the classroom and supervise children during breaks and mealtimes
  • Regularly communicate with families of children and other staff to meet the individual needs of each child
  • Ensure the classroom environment meets licensing standards for safety and cleanliness
  • Maintain appropriate training clock hours as required by Little Jewels and Nebraska Child Care Licensing
  • Completes and reports any symptoms of child abuse and neglect to supervisor and child abuse hotline
  • Exhibit an understanding of Epworth Village’s and Little Jewels’ vision and mission by adhering to all policies and procedures relevant to both employment and child and family treatment
  • Represent Epworth Village, Inc. in a positive and professional manner
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters and documents; must maintain parent, child and family, financial, staff, and agency confidentiality.
  • In accordance with our “team” philosophy, the person filling this position may be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed on this job description
  • Must comply with all Nebraska Child Care Licensing standards and regulations and will report any non-compliance observed to Center Director
  1. Position Requirements
  • 2 years of experience in an early childhood classroom preferred
  • In lieu of 2 years’ experience, this person will complete a Training Plan approved by the Nebraska Department of Education and Department of Health and Human Services within 6 months of employment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Must have the ability to stoop, bend, reach overhead, lift 35 lbs., and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must pass a series of background checks prior to hire, including a pre-employment and ongoing drug screen
