The Role of Eppler Complex

Eppler Complex is the academic home of the students, faculty, and staff of the School of Human Movement, Sport, and Leisure Studies (HMSLS). Classes, laboratories, studios, and other academic learning environments support the work of HMSLS constituencies in conjunction with the College of Education and Human Development.

Eppler Complex activities are guided by and support the mission of the School of Human Movement, Sport, and Leisure Studies.

HMSLS Mission Statement

The School of Human Movement, Sport and Leisure Studies shares the University vision to be the premier learning community in Ohio and one of the best in the nation. In concert with the College of Education and Human Development, we are dedicated to fostering a dynamic community of lifelong learners and leaders. The School is committed to the creation, enhancement, and dissemination of knowledge in the fields of kinesiology, sport, and leisure. We strive to fulfill these commitments through exemplary scholarship, creative endeavors, teaching, and service. The School encourages academic excellence and the integration of academic disciplines in the hope that we will be agents of change within our diverse, multicultural and global society. Reservation Opportunities and Priorities

The gymnasia in Eppler North, Center, and South can be scheduled for University and community activities. Priority scheduling is given to academic classes and other teaching and research activities of the faculty and students in HMSLS.

FACILITY RESERVATION POLICIES

Requesting a Reservation

To make a reservation for the Eppler Complex please complete the following procedures:

1) Check the last posted schedule to determine if Eppler North, Center, or South gyms are

2) Review the hours of operation for Eppler Complex. Please do not request times when

the facilities are in use or when Eppler Complex is closed.
3) Complete the Request to Use Eppler Complex Form.This form can be accessed at:

requests must be received one week prior to the scheduled event.
5) Approval / Denial of your request will be received via email from

as soon as possible (i.e., no more than one week later).
6) Upon approval of your request, a lease form and invoice will be sent via mail or email.

7) Payment and lease form must be submitted prior to use.

Please note the following as you complete your request:

  1. Reservations include only the use of space.
  2. Reservations are made for one semester only, and on a case-by-case basis.
  3. Note that recreational equipment, tables and chairs, sound systems, special lighting, and other equipment are not provided by the School of HMSLS.
  4. Dance Studios are typically not leased.

Reservation Timeline

  • For One-Time Use: Reservations must be made one week in advance.
  • For Weekly Use: Reservation must be made a minimum of one week in advance of the time

requested to ensure approval of all allotted times.

  • For Semester Use: Reservations must be made one full month in advance.
  • All reservations are for a maximum of one semester.
  • Reservation requests for subsequent semesters must be re-submitted for each semester.
  • Note: Late requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Reservation Payment and Fees

  • Hourly Fees:Non-University users will be charged a fee of $20.00 per hour, or a maximum of $200 per day.
  • Semester Fees:$1,500.00 per semester (August 23rd – December 19, 2010) for a maximum of 10 hours per week usage.
  • Hourly Fees: BGSU Affiliated users will be charged a fee of $10.00 per hour, or a maximum of $100 per day.
  • Semester Fees: $750.00 per semester (August 23rd – December 19, 2010) for a maximum of 10 hours per week usage.
  • Users will be liable for any damages occurring during request use.
  • All users must pay prior to gym use.
  • All payments must be sent to Lisa Bowe, HMSLS secretary. Her office is Eppler Center 119.
  • Checks should be paid to the order of the School of HMSLS – BGSU.

Right to Reassign or Terminate Reservation

The School of HMSLS has the right to reassign or terminate any reservation in Eppler Complex.

Canceling a Reservation

Reservations should be cancelled 72 hours prior to scheduled use. Cancellations under 72 hours will result in a cancellation fee of 50% of the total invoice amount.

Policy Exceptions-

Requests for exceptions to any of the Eppler Complex policies should be referred to the Director of the School of HMSLS, or the Facilities Graduate Assistants of the School of HMSLS.

OPERATING POLICIES

Safety and Security

  • Any offenses against Bowling Green State University regulations and/or student codes must be reported to the University Police.

Food and Beverages in Gymnasia

  • Food and beverages are not allowed in the gymnasia.

Facility Cleanup

  • Users are responsible for maintaining a clean facility.
  • University users who do not leave a clean facility will lose future privileges.

Animals

Animals are not permitted in the Eppler Complex, with the exception of those used for aid to the physically handicapped.

Building Hours

Eppler Complex has established building hours in cooperation with the faculty users of the building, and in consideration of the needs of the University community. Sunday-Saturday- 8:00am-10:00pm. Hours may vary during holidays and university designated breaks.

Displaying Literature

  • The posting of any literature in Eppler Complex must be approved by the School of HMSLS Director.
  • Materials for review should be submitted to the HMSLS Facilities Secretary in 119 Eppler Center.
  • Tape and adhesives are not to be used on any painted walls in Eppler Complex.

Lost and Found

Items found in Eppler Complex can be found in the Facility Graduate Assistant Office, Room 107 Eppler Center.

Smoking in Building

In accordance with the laws of the State of Ohio, smoking is prohibited in the Eppler Complex at all times.

Vending Machines

The Eppler Complex vending machines are located on the first floor in Eppler North and the third floor in Eppler South.

**EMERGENCIES**

Emergency Procedures

Eppler Complex abides by Bowling Green State University’s Emergency Procedures, which are posted on the walls throughout Eppler Complex.

Pull-down fire alarms are located in every section and every floor ofEppler Complex.

In case of emergency, dial 911 on the public telephones in Eppler Complex. These are located in the following locations:

  • Eppler North in the stairwell by the north entrance,
  • Eppler North hallway by rooms EN 201-209,
  • Eppler Center by the elevator,
  • Eppler South in the lobby area,
  • Eppler South in the hallway by ES 106, and
  • Eppler South in the hallway by ES 307.

Automated External Defibrillator

The Eppler Complex is equipped with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to be used in emergency situations. Only trained personnel should use the AED. The AED unit can be found in Eppler Center hallway on the first floor beside the HMSLS Service Center, Room 104.

First Aid Kits

First Aid kits are located in the following locations:

  • Kinesiology Division Office, 212 Eppler South,
  • Recreation, and Tourism Office, 204 Eppler North
  • Sport Management Office, Eppler Center 237
