Students cannot be taken to After School Care unless prior arrangements have been made with the Centre, and a fee will be charged by the Centre.
ABSENCES - STUDENTS
All students must provide a written reason for any absence eg sick/leave. It is the teacher’s responsibility to follow up a written note (within 7 days. Casual teachers need to record any absences on a paper roll for class teacher to enter into ‘Sentral’ – an on-line roll system. Teachers must file written absent notes for collection at the end of the year. Daily casual teachers will not have access to Sentral. It is the class teacher’s responsibility to enter student absences into Sentral.
(See roll marking)

Please advise birthday co-ordinator if you have new children start during the year so they can be added to the birthday list.

ASSEMBLY – OTHER MORNING ASSEMBLIES
* K-2 has a morning assembly Wednesday and Friday mornings under the K-2 shade-cloth at 9.10pm for weekly reminders.
* 3-6 have morning assemblies in the 3-6 assembly area Wednesday and Fridays.
BAND
The band program covers students in years 3 – 6. Band practices are organised before and after school. Any information concerning band see the band coordinator.
BANKING
Student banking is organised by parent volunteers in conjunction with the Commonwealth Bank. Student deposit books are collected each Tuesday in the classroom and sent to the staffroom. Deposits are processed and the books are returned to the students’ class on the same day.
BIRTHDAYS - STUDENT
Parents may send in cakes for their child’s birthday. Please encourage a class set of cupcakes as they are easier to hand out than one large cake that you have to cut into pieces. Ensure no peanuts are an ingredient in any shared food. Be aware of the students in your class who have food allergies/health care plans. An alternative treat needs to be organised between you and that parent for these occasions. If a parent provides lolly bags for the class they are not to be handed out or consumed during the school day – only at the end of the day they are to go home and be approved by each parent as to its contents.
BUDGET
Each class is allocated a small amount of money to be used on class items. Each teacher is responsible for their own money. Each grade also has an amount. The grade decides on what this buys. Other KLA areas have budgets where the team leader decides or the staff member responsible.
BOOKCLUB
Each term students have the opportunity to purchase books from Ashton Scholastic. Parents place orders for books for students and teachers have the opportunity to put in a wish list of books to keep in class library.
BUS
Some students catch the school bus. Please make sure they are dismissed on the bell. Bus pass applications are available at the school office.
CANTEEN
The canteen is open 5 days a week at recess and lunchtime. Teachers can order lunch at the canteen before school. You may then collect your order from the canteen at lunchtime or write your class name on your order and it will be delivered to your room with your students/class lunches via the lunch basket.
CALENDAR - SCHOOL
The school calendar should be consulted prior to organising any activity. The calendar can be found on the DP’s desk. Please only write in pencil until the activity has been approved. Clashes should be avoided. The DP ONLY will write activities on the staffroom whiteboard calendar.
CARPARKING
The staff car park is for staff only to park in allocated spaces. Alternative parking can be found in Ward Street or other nearby streets ie overhead bridge walkway exit / oval gate kindergarten parking area. No Standing/No Parking and 40km areas around the school are enforced.
CASUAL CLASSROOM TEACHING and DUTIES
During the day, please encourage a high level of performance in oral work, written work and behaviour. All students are expected to be respectful to teachers and classmates. Do not tolerate behaviour that is not of the highest level. If difficulties do arise please seek out the Assistant Principal and discuss the matter.
Check the class timetable to see if the class is timetabled to attend sport or assemblies etc and if any students have special medical conditions, routines etc.
Please ensure you mark the class roll on a paper copy for the class teacher to record into Sentral on their return.
If the students hand in money please ensure you collect the money folder from the office, place envelopes in the folder and send it to the office prior to 10am. Envelopes should not be opened. Class teachers do not record or count money.
At the end of the day please take a few minutes before the bell to have the children close the windows, pick up papers, books and pencils and put them away so that you leave a tidy room.
Please do not leave work for the class teacher to mark.
Check any information left by the class teacher, notice board, class wall or information folder for any health care plans for children in your care. If in doubt CHECK WITH THE OFFICE STAFF or DP.
Check with the Assistant Principal who gives you your orientation as to whether the class has students with particular behaviour plans, risk assessments or any special plans for the Special Education classes/students. If a student “acts out” in a dangerous manner send for assistance from the office and remove other students to safety. You may need the assistance of the teacher “next door”.
CHEQUE REQUISITION
Individuals, requesting a cheque for repayment, should complete a PINK claim form, attach receipts and give to office manager (eg. reclaiming from class budget)
CLASS BUDGET
Each class teacher is allocated money per year for classroom items. Items that can be ordered through Office Max must be purchased with them. Place your order on-line through DET Portal, My Website, DET Procurement, DET catalogue, Northern Sydney, Epping West. Type in your order by searching and adding to the shopping cart then print your order and attach to the green order form and give to Office Manager and the school office will place your order. If Office Max does not have what you need you may use outside retailers. You MUST keep the receipts to be presented with a claim form to the office manager who will write a cheque for you for reimbursement. Consumable items such as stickers etc do not require accessioning. Items such as books, classroom resources and equipment do require accessioning and become the property of the school. (pink claim forms are found in photocopier room)
CLASS DISCIPLINE
Orderly management of the class and students is expected. Use encouragement and praise. NEVER use sarcasm, blame or belittlement. A raised voice is not usually necessary. Be explicit about what will be happening and what students are expected to do. Check students understand instructions (keep them simple). Apply consequences NEVER punish. Choice Theory is used at Epping West. Please use the connecting habits and refer to class/school rules and good choices.
CLASSROOM MESSAGES

CLEANING
Classrooms will have rubbish removed and will be cleaned/ vacuumed each day. The cleaners may ask you to put up chairs on certain days to vacuum underneath or not to put up chairs on certain days so they can wipe down tables.
