ENVS Professional DevelopmentAward Program
Thanks to the generosity of our alumni and friends, we are able to grant competitive awardsto ENVS students who engage in experiences to develop skills, provide professional development experiences, and participate in research projects to help further their post-college careers in an environmental field.Our intent is to provide students with this opportunity who would otherwise find it financially difficult or impossible. Students may apply for up to $500 per project. Awards are reimbursable upon submission of final report. Funds can be used for:
-transportation or registration fees to attend skill-building or training workshops,
-transportation to participate in study abroad programs or cultural immersion projects,
-to support living expenses to allow students to take unpaid internships, or
-supplies and equipment for research projects.
Applications require all of the following information:
- you must be a currently enrolled ENVS major (Note: minors may be eligible in circumstances where your professional career goals are focused on environmental fields. Also note, if you graduate in May of 2017 you are not eligible for summer funding),
- your name, and expected year of graduation, major/minor, GPA,
- a budget of associated expenses that identifies other possible sources of funding,
- identification of a faculty or staff sponsor,
- a timeline for the work,
- documentation of logistics (i.e. confirmation from your research or internship supervisor or information about the workshop or supplies).
- a 500 word essay that includes:
- a description of your project
- a discussion on how your experience will develop skills or provide experiences to benefit your post-college career; and
- an outreach plan to formally communicate your experience to the Ithaca College community.(For example, this could be an article for the Ithacan, a spot a radio show on WICB, a presentation at the Whalen Symposium or other venue at Ithaca College...)
Only fully completed applications will be considered. The application pool is competitive and will be judged based on the following criteria:
- Fully completed and clear application (Note: incomplete applications will not be reviewed)
- Well-written essay that demonstrates the following:
- What you plan to do, when and where you will do it
- The degree to which the project will enhance your career development in an environmental field.
- The feasibility of the project-including a budget that includes all projected costs and how the award will be used.
Once granted, awards are reimbursable, contingent upon submission of a final report that includes your completed project description or outreach product, as well as an itemized breakdown of the expenses to be reimbursed (up to $500).
There are three application deadlines (5 p.m, a single hard copy to Cheryl Gunther (CNS 257A)).
October 12th for projects take place during Fall 2016 semester and during winter break,
December 12th for projects over winter break and the beginning of Spring 2017 semester,
March 10th for projects the second half of spring semester and into the summer.
