Number and Value: Five (5) entrance $1,000 scholarships
Tenure: One year (non-renewable)
Criteria
Scholarships are awarded to individuals in an environmental-related program at any Nova Scotia post-secondary institution, which can include, but is not limited to, engineering, sciences, and social sciences.
A selection committee, made up of Nova Scotia Power Employees, will review the applications and make decisions on the following basis: a solid academic record (minimum 80%); demonstrated leadership in their communities in the areas of environmental protection, resource management, or environmental sustainability; positive reference letter; and an essay on the subject of their environmental accomplishments and ambitions.
Eligibility and Exceptions:
- Entering into the first year of an undergraduate environmental-related program at a Nova Scotia post-secondary institution.
- Applicants must be graduating or have graduated from a Nova Scotia high school and entering their first year of post-secondary education within 15 months of their high school graduation.
- Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants, and a permanent resident of Nova Scotia for at least three years, two years of which are immediately prior to high school graduation.
- Scholarships will not be awarded for pursuit of Graduate Studies or made in combination with any other Nova Scotia Power scholarships.
- Scholarships will not be awarded in combination with any other Nova Scotia Power scholarships.
- Scholarships are non-transferable.

Typewritten essays preferred although clear hand-written essays will also be accepted.
This is your opportunity to introduce yourself to the Selection Committee. Write a brief essay that will help us get to know the person behind the application form. Your essay should include how you have demonstrated leadership in your community in the areas of environmental protection, resource management, or environmental sustainability. Please also include academic and career goals and any non-academic attributes.
REFERENCE LETTER
Attach a minimum of one reference letter to the application. You may submit up to three letters, however at least one reference is to be completed by applicant's Teacher, Guidance Counsellor, Vice-Principal, Principal or Professor.
