Environment Fund for Biodiversity Awareness Grant Scheme 2013

A Strategic Objective under “Actions for Biodiversity 2011 – 2016” Ireland’s 2nd National Biodiversity Plan is “To increase awareness and appreciation of biodiversity and ecosystem services”. The Plan sets a target for “Enhanced appreciation of the value of biodiversity and ecosystem services amongst policy makers, stakeholders and the general public” in order to attain this objective. /

The “Environment Fund for Biodiversity Awareness” was established to support initiatives, projects and targeted public awareness campaigns that enhance awareness of Irish biodiversity and ecosystem services. It aims to increase awareness of the underlying threats to biodiversity, emphasise the benefits of the conservation of biodiversity as well as highlighting issues such as the economic costs of failing to adequately conserve it. It also endeavours to demonstrate the essential links between biodiversity, food production, nutrition and health. Targeted audiences include schools, the general public, local communities, third level students, key economic sectors and scientific communities.

The Environment Fund for Biodiversity Awareness is administered by the Biodiversity Policy Unit, National Parks and Wildlife Service, Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
