BASIC PURPOSE:

This position is responsible forsupporting Enterprise Florida'scorporate communication initiatives by developing and facilitatingcommunication programs and projects, acting as a frontline point of contact for news media for all stories pertaining both to EFI and to Florida as a business destination. The position also serves as a point of contact for the economic development inquiries that involve the Governor’s office, state and local economic development partners, as well as businesses.

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES or TASKS:

  • Field media calls and facilitate responses through staff, partner and other stakeholder discussions.
  • Coordinate media relations activities with other stakeholders such as the Executive Office of the Governor, the Department of Economic Opportunity, CareerSource Florida, local economic development organizations as well as corporations locating economic development projects in the state
  • Generate proactive media stories and pitches to state, national and international media positively positioning Enterprise Florida and its leadership as that state’s primary economic development organization.
  • Monitor statewide and national media hits, on a daily basis compile and e-mail relevant news reports to staff
  • Provide support in the planning, coordinating, and implementing of social media strategy
  • Proofread, write and edit varied communications targeting diverse audiences: e.g., fact sheets, feature articles, news releases, business letters, scripts, talking points, etc.
  • Assist in the planning of strategic communications projects and coordinating news strategies with within marketing and communications
  • Monitor, maintain and edit online news content on EFI website
  • Advise staff relative to communications with the news media and public relations initiatives and practices

SUPERVISION:

Indirect supervision of manager and intern positions

TRAVEL:

Ten percent travel required to regional offices, board meetings and special events

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a communications field with emphasis on public relations, journalism or organizational communications.
  • Five years’ experience in economic development, corporate or government communications or public affairs.
  • Experience pitching stories and developing strong relations with traditional and new media outlets.
  • Proven ability to develop an effective communication plan to achieve organizational goals.
  • Superb strategic planning, writing, editing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience using various social media channels and a vision for using them strategically to reach key stakeholder audiences.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks while achieving a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong management and mentoring skills.
  • Experience coaching and supporting senior leaders as spokespeople.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Practical knowledge of economic development and its effects on the state’s economy.
  • Experience in local, state or federal government relations.
