Dear [Enter Name]:

I am writing on behalf of the Leadership Tech Valley (LTV) Class of 2016. I am a member of the class and would like to ask for your support for our class project entitled Swinging for the Fences, which we are working on over the next couple of months. Leadership Tech Valley Class of 2016 is collaborating with the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO) to renovate the Troy Central Little League field for continued community use and sustainability.

The Troy Central Little League is located in Troy’s disadvantaged North Central neighborhood. Troy Central Little League (TCLL) is not only a field to support Little League in the area, it also serves as a hub for community engagement events. It is anticipated that at least 130 children will participate in the Troy Little League program this year alone. All 130 children as well as their families will benefit from the upgrades made to the field. In addition, a number of community events are held at the field throughout the year, making this a true community resource. It is estimated that more than 1,000 people participate in various community activities held at this location throughout the year.

Swinging for the Fences Project includes: Commissioning a second field to allow more children to enjoy baseball; replacing pavilion roof shingles, bleachers and picnic tables; and providing baseball scholarships for those in need.

The LTV Class of 2016 will need to raise substantial funds to complete this project, and I hope I can count on your support. If you are able to contribute, please complete the attached form and enclose your donation check payable to the Schenectady County Chamber Foundation.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and donation to this worthwhile project. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [enter e-mail, phone number].

Why Troy Central Little League Project

We recognize the important role that safe, accessible recreational space plays in any community. In the case of the North Central neighborhood, where crime and unemployment rates are highest in the City of Troy, such space serves as a conduit for positive action. As we continue to see churches and other local neighborhood resources close their doors, including the Ark Charter School located in this neighborhood, it becomes more important to salvage existing community space. The revitalization of the Troy Central Little League will provide a much-needed facelift to an existing community resource, making it more accessible to children and families throughout the area and enhancing its use for purposes beyond Little League baseball.
