The IYCF-E Counselloris responsible for counselling mothers and caregivers of children 0-23 months in Cox’s Bazar.She will be responsible for age specific counselling and referral for the targeted area which impact on the lives of the extreme poorand results in lasting positive change.

Ensuring an Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E) counselling implementation plan for mothers and caretakers of children 0-23 months is in placeto ensure that the IYCF-E component of the Nutrition in Emergency Response Project activity is delivered with maximum efficiency and professionalism that would bring a positive change to the lives of the beneficiaries. Including, but not limited to:
  • Ensuring that the IYCF-E counselling implementation plan is developed jointly with the team and delivered timely and effectively to ensure improvement in the nutrition status of the project participantsbeyond project end.

  • To facilitate effective counselling to beneficiaries to bring positive change in their infant feeding practices with the minimum resources towards achieving objective.

  • Ensuring support to beneficiarieswhen required.

Counsellingof mothers and caretakers of children 0-23 months to ensure that the IYCF-E component of theNutrition in Emergency Response Project activity is delivered with maximum efficiency and professionalism that would bring a positive change to the lives of the beneficiaries. Including, but not limited to:
  • Supporting volunteers to screen and identify mothers of children 0-23 months with breastfeeding difficulties and non-breastfed infants.
  • Counseling mothers to ensure proper breastfeeding practices.
  • Counseling mothers and caretakers to ensure proper infant and young child feeding practices.
  • Supporting the referral of visibly severely wasted children 0-5 months for inpatient care.
  • Leading activities for IYCF-E in the OTP or Mother Baby Areas.
  • Working with volunteers to expand the reach of the counselling activities.
  • Ensuring quality of IYCF-E sensitization provided by volunteers, and the quality of IYCF-E counselling provided by Community Mobilizers during house to house visits.
  • Perform house to house visits to especially vulnerable infants.

Producing and maintaining records as member of the team, work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure quality counseling, community mobilization and referral. Including, but not limited to:
  • Participating actively in team planning and other meetings, working to set common objectives and goals and striving to ensure these are successfully achieved.

  • Ensuring the participation in monthly reporting and other relevant reporting within project areas that could contribute to bring effective result at project level, including preparing weekly IYCF-E report.

  • Enabling a friendly collaborative working culture within the team, actively sharing information and knowledge to enable the team to ensure effective learning and sharing across the organization.

  • Ensuring the best practices are captured, documented and disseminated at project level andprogramme level.
  • Ensuring timely production of quality reports for Nutrition Project Coordinator on project outcomes.

  • Establish link between the community and centers established by Concern worldwide

Contribute to the process of implementing quality programmes and accountability is conceptualized and effectively implemented throughout the project, and at the country programme level. This is including, but not limited to:
  • Orientation of team member other stakeholders in particular the Complaint Response Mechanism (CRM).
  • Ensuring the CRM is implemented within the project(s) and is being followed up
  • Learning from experience through monitoring and evaluation so as to continually improve the programme quality.



The IYCF-E-Counselloris responsible to the OTP Supervisor. Timely project activityimplementation through effective team leadership, resource management, and contribution to other urban programmes are the main areas of assessing performance.
Education and aptitude:
  • HSC and equivalent. Bachelor’s/Master’s will be preferred

Job related experience and knowledge:
  • At least 3-5 years progressively responsible work experience in the area ofIYCF.

  • Experience with community mobilization.

  • Experience in working with team and governments.

  • Have good knowledge on Rohingya refugee programmes.
  • Female required, as will provide one to one counselling on breastfeeding.

Time required in job to reach effective performance:
  • Probation period – 3 months

  • Time to reach full effectiveness – NA


As part of Concern’s emergency response, you may be called upon within 24 - 48 hours’ notice to serve the organization anywhere in Bangladesh, In the event of this occurring, you will be briefed on your role and responsibilities by the Head of the RRRU and by the HR.
