Annual Governance Statement for the Governing Body of Kings Heath Boys -- October2017
In accordance with the Government’s requirement for all governing bodies, the three core strategic functions of Kings Heath Boys Governing Body are:
  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  2. Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Governance arrangements
The Governing Body of Kings Heath Boys is made up of:
  • Two parent governors
  • One LA governor
  • One staff governor
  • The Headteacher
  • Six co-opted governors
The total number of governors is eleven. The term of office of governors (except the Headteacher) is four years.
The Governing Body have a range of skills and are very effective as judged by the assessor for our Governor Mark Award (April 2016). They have a range of skills in:
  • Accountancy
  • School leadership – Primary & Secondary
  • Law
  • Human Resources
  • Further/Higher Education
The Governing Body has aprogramme of meetings throughout the school year, and a committee structure that focuses on specific areas of governance.

At the full Governing Body meetings we have focused on
  • Safeguarding
  • Setting strategy and monitoring progress against the School Development Plan
  • Self evaluation of school and Governing Body incorporating feedback from peer and other external reviews
  • Ensuring all necessary resources are available so that every student can achieve their potential
  • School development plan 2017/19
These meetings are recorded in the approved minutes of the Governing Body.
The governing body gained the Governor Mark Award in April 2016 during which a full review of every aspect of the work of the governing body was discussed, checked and analysed. The suggested areas for development were then used to create the Governor Action Plan.
