First Year Experience (FYE)/Learning Communities

·  The UC Application Workshop will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 12:00pm – 1:00pm in the Distance Education Room.

·  First Year Experience’s Holiday Event will take place on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 from 1:00pm – 2:00pm in East Dining Room, Cafeteria.

Outreach and School Relations

OASR November Updates:

·  The 7th High School Principals’ Breakfast was well-attended last month. 25 high school principals and local school district superintendents attended the annual event hosted by President Fallo. Guests heard about improvements coming to our athletic facilities and participated in a discussion on priority registration and upcoming changes with the Student Success Initiative – SB 1456.

·  SLOs - changes have been implemented in CurricUNET which addressed some SLO input issues Student Service programs were having. Some Student Service staff mentioned they are receiving emails asking for approval for class SLO statements – Student Service staff should not be getting these approval requests. All the CurricUNET changes have not been tested. These continued setbacks should not keep programs from continuing to implement and assess their SLOs.

2012 Online Testing at Local High Schools
249 of the 340 (73.2%) high school seniors who tested at their high schools in the Spring 2012, enrolled in ECC classes for the Summer or Fall 2012 semesters
·  2012 - 249 of the 340 (73.2%)
·  2011 - 310 of the 432 (71.8%)
·  2010 - 274 of the 375 (73.1%)

·  There are 9,428 students currently in our Prospective Student Database. The database will be purged of students who have registered, or have been in the database for more than two years with no admissions activity later this semester. Contact Robin Dreizler if your program wishes to use this database for program recruitment.

·  Our high school contact listserv continues to grow (390 high school counselors and administrators) and has been updated for the Fall 2012. If you would like information regarding how to market your program or services by accessing this listserv, please contact Robin Dreizler or Julieta Ortiz.

Financial Aid

·  The front counter remodel is finished but may be modified in the future to include privacy panels on the student side of the counter.

·  Interviews were held for the Financial Aid Assistant Director position.

·  The loan application deadline was November 1, 2012.

·  The deadline to turn in Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeals is November 15, 2012.

·  California Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (CASFAA) workshop for high school counselors will take place on Thursday, November 15th from 8:00am-12:30pm in the East Dining Cafeteria. 150-200 attendees are expected. Dr. Nishime will deliver a welcome speech. El Camino is hosting the event and the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) and L. A. Pierce College are facilitating the event.

Assessment/Testing

·  Waiting for the official word about the week that the server will not be available during the move.

·  The number of students testing is picking up.

Area Council

·  The November Area Council meeting was postponed to November 20th. Please refer to the updates on the October Division Council Newsletter.

Student Development

·  The results came in for the Fall ICC Blood Drive: 273 units collected – Goal 268

·  Inter-Club Council hosted their very first Homecoming Halloween Carnival and on Halloween ASO hosted their first Halloween Maze.

·  The Homecoming Dance was attended and enjoyed by many students on the evening of November 2nd. The El Camino Jazz Band made a wonderful guest performance.

·  October 18th was the last day to turn in paperwork to start a club. We have about 10 new clubs in the petitioning process.

·  The SDO staff took the Strengths Quest Assessment and will be discussing it in a future staff meeting.

·  ASO will be preparing this month for Finals Madness that will be held Dec. 10th-13th in the East Lounge from 9pm-12am.

·  ASO sent 4 students to represent them at the SSCCC General Assembly Conference held on the weekend of November 2nd.

·  ICC is preparing for their annual Children’s Holiday Party. Due to budget cuts this event almost did not happen but ASB has approved a request of $1,000.00. This event will be held in the East Lounge on Friday December 7th.
