Job Purpose
To assist in ensuring that BCU’s Recruitment and Widening Participation needs are met. To assist in supporting the link between Student Recruitment and Marketing. To support the development, marketing and delivery of a broad portfolio of activity to targeted and under-represented groups of learners.
The post holder will also support the wider work of the Marketing Team performing administrative and event-focused activities to maintain and develop partnerships with its network of schools and colleges on a local, regional and national level.
Main activities and responsibilities
  • Support a number of pre and post 16 activities and events for schools and colleges, delivered on a local, regional and national level, to help improve awareness of the University and raise aspirations towards Higher Education.
  • Attend a number of UCAS Higher Education exhibitions, providing information, advice and guidance to prospective students, parents or guardians, teachers and careers advisors to support the University’s student recruitment strategy.
  • Provide administrative assistance to the Schools and Colleges Liaison Officers and the wider Marketing and Communications Team, to support student recruitment.
  • To provide administrative, event and project-specific support to colleagues within the wider Schools and Colleges Liaison Team, to help improve operational efficiency and performance.
  • To provide administrative and staffing support in relation to events which form part of the University’s Aimhigher Partnership, including the annual Summer School activity which takes place during July.
  • Deal with a range of general enquiries from prospective students and other key stakeholder groups, ensuring a customer-focused approach at all times with high levels of professionalism.
  • To support the Schools and Colleges Liaison Team’s commitment to effective recording, monitoring and evaluation of all activities through the timely completion of evaluation forms and the on-going accurate reporting of events.
  • To develop the connection between the universities marketing function and student recruitment.
  • To support the marketing of events and activities to schools and colleges.
  • To support the wider range of activities undertaken within the Department of Marketing and Communications which influence student recruitment including Open Days, Applicant Visit Days, Clearing and other business/community events.

Additional Key Requirements:
Managing people and resources
Whilst the role will not involve any line management responsibilities, there will be occasions where the briefing and supervision of student ambassadors will be required.
Communication
Provide clear and accurate information, advice and guidance in response to a broad range of enquiries and queries from key stakeholders including prospective students, parents or guardians, mature learners, teachers and careers advisors.
There is a requirement for good communication skills to assist in preparing and supporting the delivering of events, which are important and regular aspects of the role.
The requirement for good interpersonal skills, and the ability to flex communication style, owing to the diverse range of audiences encountered, will be important.
Teamwork and collaborative working
Work with colleagues within the Schools and Colleges Liaison Team and wider Marketing Team to provide efficient and effective administrative, event and project related support on a daily basis.
Team player, capable of working with minimum supervision, and providing flexible support across the team.
There will be a need to form an effective working relationship with other peers conducting a similar type of role.
Initiative, problem solving and decision making
Resolve a range of queries relating to Higher Education matters.
Provide information, advice and guidance on events and project activities, progress and priorities.
Respond quickly to a range of situations, problems and queries which may arise at activities and events.
Work environment
Be aware of the risks in the work environment and the potential impact on own work.
Be aware of Safeguarding issues, given the role will involve co-ordinating and facilitating visits from school and college groups communication
Person Specification
  • Be personable and comfortable dealing with people of all ages..
  • The ability to communicate well with a wide variety of individuals is essential.
  • Able to demonstrate familiarity with IT applications and confidence to use a variety of systems.
  • Have excellent written and spoken English
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately. Training on data protection will be provided.
  • Adaptable approach and good problem solving skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure and respond sensibly to the unexpected.
  • Committed, conscientious and reliable.
  • Ability to recognise and adapt to a changing environment, be proactive at suggesting improvements and be willing to participate in wider change and review of the service.
  • Demonstrable understanding of equality and diversity and appropriate professional conduct within a student support environment
  • Be willing to work towards professional qualifications in your own time.
Applications will as part of the working week be given time off to attend lectures related to their BC (Hons) business Management Degree where and when required.
  • All applicants will be expected to have achieved the following academic criteria :
GCSE (grade C or grade 4) including Maths and English
Grades BBC or DMM Btec Business
Special Requirements
  • Ability to travel between sites and school and college events (driving license is desirable)
  • There will be a requirement to work outside of standard hours to support Clearing, Saturday events, Summer Schools and occasional evening work etc. There is a leave ban around key recruitment events.
  • A clear DBS check
