Enlightenment Coffeehouse
Introduction:
The Enlightenment was an intellectual revolution. The discoveries of the Scientific Revolution (1600’s) inspired intellectuals to question all aspects of society from government and religion to economics and education. The result was a new approach and challenge to old institutions that brought great change to many aspects of civilization. The movement, that stressed reason and the scientific method as a means of studying human behavior and institutions, reached its peak in the 1700’s. The ideas of the Enlightenment quickly spread through gatheringsin salons and coffeehouses where intellectuals would discuss ideas.
