English ten Independent Reading Project: An Interesting Person/Person Worth Admiring
PROJECT OVERVIEW

Directions:
For this part of the semester you will select texts that will allow you to explore the life of a person you find interesting or think is important or believe is worth admiring. These people might be coaches, leaders in some field, historical figures, people you respect or simply people who intrigue you. The big idea is for you to learn more about a person you find interesting and to learn from their experiences some lessons you can apply to your own life and/or some insights you gained about the person.

Requirements:
You will select at least three texts to help you explore this topic.

·  Your primary, or main text, must be a biography, autobiography or memoir about the person. The additional texts you choose may be any two or more of the following types of texts:

·  Poems

·  Diaries/journals

·  Magazine or newspaper articles

·  Music Videos/videos

·  Documentaries

·  Speech/essay

·  Letters/quotes

You must have explored at least two of the different types of texts listed above, in addition to your primary text, as part of this study.

Outcomes
This assignment meets a variety of outcomes, including:

2.1, 2.3, 5.1, 9.2, 10.4

Steps:
The information you gather will be the basis for the speaking part of the exam in June (value 10%). You will create a visual-verbal collage that demonstrates your learning. The visual verbal collage will be evaluated separately from the exam (15 points) and will be included in your term mark.

·  Bring your book to every class.

·  Create a visual-verbal collage about the person (this process will be outlined in class later).

·  Prepare a two minute presentation about the person you studied in which you discuss why you admire him/her, his/her importance or the knowledge you’ve gained about people or life in general, by studying him/her.

·  Present your presentation to the teacher.

·  Respond to questions about your presentation from the teacher.
