ENGLISH II & ENGLISH II HONORS - COURSE OVERVIEW

MISS MAYFIELD

Welcome to an exciting year in our classroom! Throughout the semester we will be using classical and contemporary world literature to broaden each student’s outlook, as well as his or her English language proficiency. Students will be asked to respond to pieces of literature through multiple means of assessment throughout the course. Students will also complete an extensive research project, according to state and local guidelines. In addition, English II will focus on oral and written language in preparation for the North Carolina End of Course Test and the Common Core Curriculum adopted by North Carolina’s Board of Education.

Supplies:

  1. A Planner! Successful students keep up with assignment deadlines.
  2. A 3-ring binder with 5 dividers (1-Warm-ups, 2-Notes, 3-Quizzes, 4-Classwork/Homework, 5-Stems)
  3. An active email account. One has been provided for you through the school system, in addition to storage on the One Drive. You will need an email account to register for turnitin.com and it is useful for contacting your teachers with questions. If you prefer not to utilize the One Drive, I would suggest purchasing a flash drive – essential for a stress-free research paper process and any other paper or project that requires saving and transporting work/information.
  4. Loose-leaf paper. We will not utilize any notebooks.
  5. Pens that write with legible, dark ink and #2 pencils for tests and guidance forms.
  6. Colored pencils or markers orcrayons – for projects that need to be in color!
  7. Computer access. All formal written works should be typed. Computers and printers are all over campus if you do not have access at home.
  8. A positive, ready-to-work attitude!
