English Creates Opportunities (ECO) Camp

English Creates Opportunities (ECO) Camp

Student Application

(July 16-20, 2012)

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Public Diplomacy section of the U.S. Embassy in Managua is pleased to announce its fourth “English Creates Opportunities” (ECO) camp for 45 secondary school students between the ages of 14 – 16 from all over Nicaragua. Selected students should have excelled academically in their studies. Preference will be given to students from economically disadvantaged families.

The ECO camp is a continuing initiative that the U.S. Embassy offers to talented secondary school students. This five day program provides a total immersion English course experience where participants will be exposed to the English language in authentic contexts and will communicate with one another only in English, thus enhancing their language skills for real-world interactions.

During the camp, participants will learn about different aspects of American culture in order to develop a better understanding of the United States and its people. In addition, through planned camp activities, participants will learn more about their own culture and communities. This camp will be an unforgettable experience that participants will share with their friends and families.
