English 10 Advanced Strategic Reading and Composition this course expands and strengthens skills developed in English 9. This course focuses on the emphasis and further development ofexpository writing and literary analysis essays.

Attendance: It is vital that you show up to class every day and on time. Missing days can affect your success in completion of the course. If you’re absent it is your responsibility to ensure that missing assignments are completed. Make up work and the course agenda can be retrieved from

Assignment policy: Students are responsible for bringing school supplies to class, which entails: paper, pencils, and folders etc. Class work is to be completed in pencil. Students will be responsible for keeping class work in an organized 3-ring binder with dividers. The class binders will contain a combination of notes you take in class, handouts, class assignments, and homework. Binders will be checked weekly. In order to maintain assignments, students will keep a Portfolio Checklist in their binders. The Portfolio Checklist will be updated weekly. Every assignment needs to be completed and in the binder the day portfolios will be checked. If portfolios are not prepared and there are missing assignments, students will not be allowed to return to class the following day without a signature from the registrar or counselor, signing off on the Portfolio Checklist. EVERY assignment needs to be completed in order to earn a grade and credit for the course.

Grading: Each assignment is worth 5 points possible; 5=A, 4=B, 3=C. The points possible listed on the Portfolio Checklist for each assignment will be totaled at the end of the course. Students must earn a 3 or higher on their portfolios in order to receive credit for the course. Students are highly encouraged to edit/revise the assignment if they receive less than a 3.

Plagiarism: Every assignment needs to be completed by each individual student. Copying another student’s work is not acceptable. If a student is to use a reference for their guide in completing class work, then quotations and/or the source must be included.

Classroom expectations: Respect yourself, the teacher and your peers; use appropriate language, refrain from eating or drinking in the classroom, with the exception of water; refrain from using cell phones, IPods, and earphones.
