- BELL – war
Bellicose (adjective) – warlike, aggressive, quarrelsome
Example: Even though he never won any of the arguments he started, he continued to be belligerent and bellicose.
- PAC/PEAS – agree; peace
Appease (verb) – to make peaceful and quiet; to calm, satisfy
Example: Crying children can usually be appeased with a toy.
- HOSP/HOST – host; guest
Hostage (Noun) – a person held to ensure a demand is met
Example: Several countries have used military force with varying degrees of success over the last three decades to rescue hostages.
- AM/IM – love
Enamored (adjective) – charmed or fascinated; inflamed with love

Gravitate (verb) – to be drawn toward something
Example: It’s often interesting to notice how we gravitate toward people who share similar views and attitudes as we do.
- LEV – light; raise or lighten
Levity (adjective) – a lack of seriousness
Example: The happy audience strolled back out into the stormy night feeling much levity in comparison to the evening’s heavy weather.
- AG – do, go, lead, drive
Agitate (verb) – to move something irregularly; to stir up or excite
Example: Loud noises agitate Angela so much that she cannot endure them.
- VEN/VENT – come
Advent (noun) – a coming or arrival
Example: The advent of the New Year makes everyone busy.
The advent of spring is particularly welcome after a long, harsh winter.
