End of Unit Project: The Shadow of the War

Directions: Reflect on the readings and films you have experienced throughout the unit to answer the following question…

How should Americans remember World War II?

Your response to this question may take one of the following two forms…

·  An in class 4-5 paragraph essay

·  A 7-10 slide PowerPoint, Keynote, Prezi, etc.

Regardless of format, your project should include the following…

·  An overall argument with a selection of facts/quotes from either the Best War Ever or the Greatest Generation reading that support your argument

·  An analysis of 2 different readings (1 paragraph total or 1 slide per reading) we have had from the unit that support or refute your argument that includes the following information…

o  plot

o  character sketches

o  attitudes of the work on battle soldiers, race, gender, etc…

o  is this work a good example or a poor example of how we should remember the war and why

·  An analysis of 2 different films (1 paragraph total or 1 slide per film) we have watched throughout the unit that includes the following information…

o  plot

o  character sketches

o  attitudes of the work towards soldiers, race, gender, etc..

o  is this work a good example or a poor example of how we should remember the war and why

·  An evaluation of the different time periods we have studied…which time period stands out to you as having the best attitude towards the war and why? Think about schools of historiography.

Friday, (Sept. 9) will be a library day to work with all the materials and construct an outline. Tuesday (Sept. 13) will be time to work on and finish your essay or slide show. Projects are due at the end of class on Sept. 13 The project is worth 60 points.
