MOTIVATION to be Physically Active

Effective Physical Education Strategies

  1. Peer Leaders- Students rotate every week, routines, choose a warm-up, and utilize athletes from different sports to lead.
  1. Peer Assessments- Checklists, put students in groups of three (observer, teacher and student).
  1. Consistency- Students know what you expect!
  1. Variety- Different drills, more than three sports.
  1. Positive Reinforcement- Example: Assignment is to do 100 pushups at the end of class. For every positive comment the teacher hears, the teacher takes off 4 pushups from the 100 the group has to do.
  1. Self Fitness Monitoring-Heart Rate Monitors, heart rate, pedometers, goal setting.
  1. Goal Setting- Set and evaluate personal short term and long term goals.
