Employment, Training & Volunteering Programme Coordinator (Fixed Term Contract)

Job Aims:

The vision of this project is to organise an employment programme for three locations across threedistricts: Eastleigh, Fareham and Southampton. This programme will benefit D/deaf, deafblind and visually impaired people and in each workshop/weekly drop-in location. At present deafPLUS collaboratively work with several different organisations: Hampshire County Council Deaf Services, Open Sight, Sonus, Citizens Advice Bureau, JobcentrePlus, and a number of employment agencies. We also support visually impaired and blind people through deafPLUS' branch called visionPLUS. deafPLUS have been providing services in Hampshire for over 25 years, in particular through our MAS (Mobile Advisory Service) and our Reablement Service.

Our experience in the area means that we know there is a need for an Employability Service in Hampshire due to the delivery of a video IAG Employment Helpline which is based in Aldershot, where Deaf callers chat to our adviser through Skype, FaceTime and OoVoO. As the helpline provides a limited service by giving IAG (Information, Advice & Guidance) through the video-call, it is not designed to physically support clients by supporting them at interviews, organise accessible training courses, organise volunteer/work experience placements, deliver Deaf/Disability Awareness Training or attend meetings with employers to sustain them in work.

Terms and Conditions:

  • This is a Fixed term contract until 31st March 2018,part time position 18.75hours perweek @ £10 ph
  • Contract ends on 31st March 2018.
  • Salary £19,240.00PRO RATA
  • 25 days Annual Leave & 8 day Bank Holidays (pro-rata)

Main tasks:

  1. Give deaf, deafblind and visually impaired people the skills to find work i.e. to improve their basic skills in numeracy, English, computer skills and interview techniques.
  2. Organise deliver of workshops on motivation and social integration, teaching people to use their own initiative so that they can progress up the career ladder in the future.
  3. Assist deaf, deaf blind and visually impaired people in finding voluntary positions/work experience placements involved as currently there is no government funding for support workers/interpreters. In this instance we would need to provide deaf awareness training to the participating companies/organisations.
  4. Recruit trainers who could visit the companies involved and give deaf/deafblind awareness training to achieve successful communication, this will enable deaf, deafblind and visually impaired people to improve their confidence with the aim to gain paid employment at the end of the placement.
  5. Organise and supervise a programme of weekly drop-ins for each location including the organisation of different wellbeing workshops/activities at the drop-ins i.e Self esteem, anger management, walking groups, and these activities will also help to improve mental health.
  6. Support clients through the IAG Employment helpline.
  7. Add charitylog daily
  8. Write quarterly monitoring reports and produce the end of year report.

General.

  1. To share in agreed staff development policies by receiving regular supervision and annual appraisals
  2. To develop an agreed personal training plan and carry this out using internal and external training as required.
  3. To attend deafPLUS staff meetings and others as required.
  4. To participate in fundraising activities when required.
  5. To ensure knowledge on Social Welfare Law issues is up-to-date.
  6. To adhere to and promote deafPLUS’s policies and standards, especially the Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and Total Communication policies.
  7. To adhere to deafPLUS quality marks such as the Matrix Standard and AQS (Advice Quality Standard).
  8. To support the Line Manager and other deafPLUS staff in achieving the aims of deafPLUS and carry out such other relevant duties as may be agreed.
  9. To coordinate own Access to Work support when required.

Note:

The final interpretation of this job description rests with the CEO in consultation with the Head of Services and the jobholder. It will be reviewed in the course of supervision meeting and any amendments will be negotiated with the jobholder. The jobholder is also expected to share in other work with deafPLUS as time permits and by agreement with the Manager.
