Mission

To provide innovative and Person Centred solutions for people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and other disabilities irrespective of where and how they live, to improve their quality of life and to extend and exercise their rights to access more control over their lives.

Organisation

Autism Plus is a charity committed to improving the life of people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and other disabilities. The charity was formed in 1986 by a group of parents of autistic children. Autism Plus offers a range of services, including Residential, Supporting Living, Respite, Adult Learning/Day Service, Community Support and Domiciliary Care.

Autism Plus is a member of The Adsetts Partnership (TAP), which offers collaboration opportunities with like-minded voluntary sector agencies on a wide range of initiatives, from major government contracts through to local projects which will provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ range of services. Autism Plus also works closely with Jobsteps Employment Services Ltd (a member of TAP), which specialises in helping individuals with disabilities and complex barriers to work find and sustain meaningful paid employment.

Job summary

To work within the Mission, Vision and Values of Autism Plus and the aims and objectives of the service.

To coordinate and work as part of the team within the Residential/Supported Living Unit with people who have Autistic Spectrum Disorder and associated disabilities. To assist in the co-ordination and maintenance of financial andadministrative systems within the team as required by linemanagement e.g. petty cash, medication, annual leave etc.

To be responsible, as designated, for ensuring the maintenance ofphysical standards within the home.Liaise with head office personnel through line management andrepresent service users and the staff team in internal and externalmeetings.

Key responsibilities

Administration

  • To work within the regulatory framework which may include liaison with

Regulation and Inspection Authority staff and the Supporting PeopleTeam.

  • Ensure that each member of the team is given effective support,guidance and supervision in carrying out their duties.
  • Assist line management to ensure that the team have a workingknowledge of Care in the Community and Supported Living Principlesas well as any other relevant legislation.
  • To have a working knowledge of Autism Plus Policies andProcedures in line with the responsibilities of this post.
  • To co-ordinate and work within a rota of support to the people who livein Residential and Supported Living, ensuring adequate cover at all times.
  • Ensure effective and clear communication systems are maintainedincluding record keeping, report writing and team meetings etc.

Support to service users

  • Promote non-discriminatory practices.
  • To ensure that the highest levels of performance and standards of work are achieved, in line with CQC outcomes and Autism Plus policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that service users receive the necessary care and support toenable them to have as much control over their own lives as possibleand to become involved in valued activities within the community. To promote Person Centred Planning and BILD at all times.
  • Ensure that appropriate procedures and practices are implemented andmaintained so that the individual service user and group needs areeffectively assessed and identified and that individual care / supportplans are developed and implemented to meet these.
  • Safeguarding knowledge awareness and understanding of the Safeguarding policies and procedures. Attend training including Mental

Capacity and Best Interest

  • Ensure that adequate records are kept for each service user in line withAutism Initiatives policies and procedures. Protect the confidentiality ofpersonal information and ensure that the information is only disclosedto those who have a right and need to know.
  • Ensure that Individual Service Agreements are maintained and thatindividuals have access to the Complaints Procedure. To act in service users best interests at all times.
  • Learn and use appropriate methods of communication e.g. Makaton.TEACCH.
  • Ensure that the personal belongings of service users are treated withrespect.
  • To ensure that medication is administered and recorded as prescribed. To organise safe procedures for the collection, storage and administration of medication within Autism Plus guidelines.

Additional responsibilities

  • Act as a mentor to new inductees and assist in the induction of new staff.
  • Support colleagues in difficult or potentially difficult situations within theworkplace. Ensure staff understand the importance of a debrief following an incident or crisis.
  • Be involved in the monitoring and control of identified expenditurewithin budgetary limits.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate handling and recording of service users monies as per Autism Plus policy and procedure.
  • Be flexible in accordance with the needs of the service users.
  • To ensure that the fabric of properties managed by Autism Plus are maintained to a high standard. To ensure that necessary repairs are carried out promptly and that all housing services are efficiently and

effectively carried out.

Other

  • To notify Team Leader of planned whereabouts and to submit accurate

timesheets monthly.

  • To accept support, supervision and guidance from senior colleagues.
  • To carry out all work in a manner consistent with the aims of the Charity

and the service principles adopted by Autism Plus
