Job Responsibilities
-What the job must achieve-
  • Provide and maintain a caring, stimulating, safe and secure environment for children within the Nursery setting, encouraging learning through play
  • To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the Nursery, including individual and group attention
  • Comply with CSSIW National Minimum Standards and Regulations.
  • Adhere to all Nursery Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure the individual needs of the children are met through supervision, observation, love and care

Job Tasks
-How the responsibilities will be achieved-
  • Work positively as a team member and maintain excellent communication
  • Support all staff and engage in good teamwork
  • To be involved in ALL out of working hours activities e.g. staff training, staff meetings, fetes and fundraising events, Christmas party/concert etc.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of activities and structures in line with the Foundation Phase and the appropriate development records of the children in your care
  • Record and monitor children’s development through continuous assessment and observations.
  • Maintain children’s records and liaise with parents and other family members
  • Work with parents/carers of children with special educational needs to ensure full integration within the Nursery
  • Adhere to the working conditions, procedures and policies set out in the Nursery, putting them into practice, and report any issues that may arise to Management Staff
  • To be flexible within the working practices of the Nursery. Be prepared to help and offer support where needed, undertaking certain domestic jobs within the Nursery e.g. preparation of snacks, refreshments and meals, cleaning equipment etc. in order to ensure the efficient running of the Nursery.
  • Work alongside the Management team to ensure the ethos and philosophy of the Nursery is being fulfilled
  • Answer the telephone/door in a professional manner, ensuring that unannounced visitors are challenged and security checked before access is gained into the Nursery to ensure maximum protection of staff and children
  • Ensure visitors to the Nursery are signed in to the Nursery Visitors Book.
  • Meet and greet the parents/carers in a professional manner
  • Toys and equipment used must be cleaned and stored correctly after each use
  • Ensure that children in your care are signed in and out of the daily register and collection of children is checked and challenged
  • Teaching and learning through play, extending children’s learning where required
  • Maintain equipment, toys and check adequate supply of stock (i.e. gloves, wipes etc), report to Deputy Manager if stock is required, or equipment or toys require disposal
  • Respect confidentiality within the Nursery in line with Confidentiality Policy.
  • Record any incident or accident on the appropriate forms correctly, also report to Management Staff. Forms must be signed and submitted to the office once completed
  • Assist and supervise students or trainees on work experience
  • Maintain a flexible approach regarding change in working hours to ensure adequate staffing at all times
  • Administer medication where necessary and record information accurately, ensuring parental consent – completed forms must be returned to the office
  • Any problems or issues to be reported to Management staff
  • Keep abreast of current legislation and best practice. To be aware of the high profile and reputation of the Nursery and to uphold their standards at all times.

Skills, Training And Experience
-What knowledge and skills are needed-
  • Ideally 6 months experience gained within a childcare setting
  • NVQ Level III qualified or equivalent, or working towards childcare qualification in accordance with ACCAC’s National Qualifications Framework for Early Years Child Care, Learning & Development
  • First Aid qualified (12hr Paediatric), Child Protection & Safeguarding trained and holder of basic Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Must have an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check (cleared prior to employment)
  • Ability to work within a team and have excellent communication skills
  • Good communication skills

Structure of the Nursery
-Who am I responsible to-
  • Responsible to Senior Nursery Nurse/Deputy Manager who monitors daily running of the Nursery and oversees staff performance, whilst maintaining staff morale and motivation by being proactive.
  • Responsible to Company Secretary and Nursery Manager (Managing Director) who monitors the daily running of the Nursery. Oversees staff performance and ensures that staff are being proactive, effective and efficient in their roles. Appraisals, disciplinary procedures, monitoring and evaluating staff performance and children’s learning including education, development and training.

Conditions of Service

Nursery Nurse

Working Hours

The normal days of work are Mondays to Fridays. The working hours will vary between a minimum of 10 hours and a maximum of 50 hours per week worked between 7.30 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. This will be advised to staff on a two weekly basis by a rota and due to the needs of the business may be subject to change, therefore staff will be expected to keep their working hours flexible to a reasonable extent.

Location

The normal place of work will be the Old School House Nursery, Pen-Y-Fai, Bridgend, CF31 4LT. Staff parking is not available at the Old School House Nursery, therefore, personal vehicles can be parked a short walking distance away. Parking or dropping off on the Private Drive outside the Nursery is prohibited due to an existing Court Order held by the current owners of the drive.

Medical Clearance

Any offer of appointment is subject to medical clearance. You will be required to complete a medical questionnaire, but may also require medical examination before appointment.

References

Appointment is subject to receipt of a minimum of two satisfactory references. Wherever possible these should be from previous employers.

Criminal Records

The satisfactory outcome of an enhanced criminal record check by the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) is a requirement for this position.

Probationary Period

New employees are subject to the satisfactory completion of a 28 day trial and a six month probationary period. The Nursery reserves the right to extend this period at its discretion.
