Action Component: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment

  1. Professional Development:
  1. On October 18, administrators from each school attended the Instructional Leadership Network meeting focused on implementing the Professional Growth and Evaluation System (PGES).
  2. On October 21 and 22, Will Black and Donald Shively attended the Scott Trimble Conference in Louisville, KY.
  3. On October 30, three teachers from our district attended a training hosted by WKEC on implementing the new Common Core Science Standards.
  4. On November 11, administrators from each school attended the Instructional Leadership Network meeting focused on implementing the Professional Growth and Evaluation System (PGES).
  5. On November 11, Stacey Overlin, Will Black, and Donald Shively attended the Next Generation Learning Academy professional development in Georgetown, KY.
  1. Assessment:
  1. ​KRS 158.6453(1)(i) defines Program Review is as “a systematic method of analyzing components of an instructional program, including instructional practices, aligned and enacted curriculum, student work samples, formative and summative assessments, professional development and support services, and administrative support and monitoring.” The Kentucky Department of Education released the Program Review results for all schools and districts in Arts & Humanities, Practical Living / Career Studies, and Writing in October.

  1. District Monitoring:
  1. Monthly meetings with individual school administrators over improving curriculum, instruction, and assessment are continually ongoing.
  2. The assistant superintendent and federal program coordinator have met with all school administrators and staff representatives about student achievement at each school, Response to Intervention in each school, and their plans for improvement. The meetings took place on the following dates:
  • Morgan Elementary School on Tuesday, November 12
  • Choice’s on Wednesday, November 13
  • Clark Elementary School on Wednesday, November 13
  • Paducah Middle School on Wednesday, November 13
  • Paducah Tilghman High School on Thursday, November 14
  • McNabb Elementary School on Monday, November 18
