JOB SUMMARY

The Volunteer Services Co-ordinator will be responsible for the development and day-to-day running of the Volunteer Services.

Brighton Women’s Centre has been awarded funding from Brighton and Hove City Council to roll out city-wide Women’s Hubs which willprovide weekly Woman Only Peer led Drop-In in neighbourhoods. It will provide a safe, inclusive environment for women to receive support across a range of needs. The Co-ordinator will initiate developments within this service andconsult and pilot with identified communities in Brighton and Hove in order to initiate outreach Drop-Ins. Working with the Service Development Manager, the Coordinator will ensure that services are delivered to a very high standard, that service targets and operational plans, budgetary and monitoring requirements for funders are met. She will work in a women-centred, trauma-informed way which promotes good practice within the volunteerteam.

What does the Volunteer Services Coordinator do?

She will recruit and train volunteers who will provide a frontline service to women with multiple complex needs who access the Volunteer Services. Volunteers will support women to reach their potential in leading fulfilling and empowered lives. Engagement with volunteers will support women to build personal and social capital and create opportunities for them to access activities and services. These services will include Peer Group Drop-Ins, Food Bank and Holistic Therapies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To develop the Volunteer Services and manage the day-to-day running of the services to includePeer Group Drop-Ins, Food Bank & Holistic Therapies

  • To recruit and supervise volunteers who will provide one-to-one and group-based support to service users accessing the services
  • To develop and deliver the volunteer training programme

  • To supervise and provide guidance to volunteers in their work, including identifying individual and collective training and development needs and opportunities
  • To act as support, mentor and coach to the volunteers during their volunteer hours
  • To ensure that Peer Group Drop-In sessions are adequately staffed and facilitated
  • To undertake consultation with key stakeholders regarding service development and innovations in the service
  • To keep up-to-date with local and national good practice, innovation and policy development for volunteer services
  • To liaise with partnership agencies providing workers co-located at BWC and to coordinate the smooth running of this provision
  • To co-operate with all partner agencies and ensure effective working relationships with all those involved in support networks
  • To identify and act on child protection/vulnerable adults at risk issues informing line manager and taking appropriate action
  • To write service review and evaluation reports as required
  • To participate in appropriate fundraising activities for the service
  • To monitor the Health and Safety of Volunteer Services and take appropriate action where necessary to ensure security of building
  • Undertake Health and Safety checks and Risk Assessments
  • To promote and publicise BWC events and services
  • To act in accordance with BWC policies and procedures
  • To maintain the confidentiality and boundaries of the service and of BWC
  • To attend and facilitate supervision, training and internal and external meetings as required ensuring preparation and participation is maximised

Probationary period: All posts within Brighton Women’s Centre are subject to a three month probationary period.
