Empire Girls State Scholarship at the College at Brockport

The Empire Girls State Scholarship at the College at Brockport is sponsored by Brockport Auxiliary Service Corporation in recognition of the annual summer program held at the College.

Eligibility

·  All girls who attended the Empire Girls State program held at the College at Brockport and receive their certificate of completion from Empire Girls State will be eligible to apply for this scholarship as accepted and enrolled students at the College at Brockport. If their certificate of completion is unable to be produced they may contact the American Legion Auxiliary Department of New York department office to verify their status.

·  The Award will be granted to those who are entering their first academic year at the College at Brockport. This may include first year freshman students and transfer students.

Amount

A total of $3,000 (three thousand dollars) across both semesters (fall and spring) of the first academic year will be given as a credit to meal plan expenses on the student’s bill. The total scholarship of $3,000 may be split among no more than three applicants (i.e. $500.00 per semester/$1,000 per academic year).

Application Criteria:

1)  Demonstrated completion of the Empire Girls State program at the College at Brockport.

2)  Acceptance to and enrollment in the College at Brockport as a freshman or transfer residential student.

Application Process:

·  Submit an essay no longer than 600 words describing your experiences with leadership. It should include their time at EGS and Brockport.

·  Define what makes a good leader.

·  Describe significant moments in your life when you have learned from good leaders and/or experiences where you have personally demonstrated strong leadership.

·  Submit two (2) supporting letters of recommendation from mentors or community members that you have worked with in the past.

·  Include a copy of your certificate of completion in the Empire Girls State program.

·  Application packet is due no later than August 1st of the first academic year or year applying to Brockport.
