Emerson Climate Technologies Exhibits New R290 Controls And Copeland Scroll™ Compressors
At Chillventa

·  New R290 (propane) Copeland Scroll compressors for refrigeration and comfort applications

·  New range of mechanical and electrical controls for R290

·  Meeting emerging industry needs following F-Gas regulation

AACHEN (GERMANY), October 15, 2014 – Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), will exhibit its new scroll compressors and controls for propane at Chillventa. In light of the F-Gas regulation, R290 is an attractive alternative to commonly used refrigerants. This flammable refrigerant has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of three and zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP), reducing CO2-equivalent greenhouse gas emissions and providing excellent thermodynamic properties.

The Copeland Scroll ZB*KCU range, with a medium temperature cooling capacity from 2 to 9 kW, will be shown at Chillventa. Six models for R290 are available and cover refrigeration applications such as self-contained display cases, condensing units for cold rooms or even multi-compressor refrigeration chiller systems. ZB*KCUs feature a high level of efficiency, full hermetic design, light weight and are ATEX certified.

Emerson Climate Technologies will also present its Copeland Scroll ZH*KCU range of R290 compressors for air conditioning and heat pump applications. The first three models, with a heating capacity of 9 to 13 kW are already available and further three models with a capacity down to 4 kW will be available by the end of the year. The capacity of ZH*KCUs extends up to 27 kW for tandem applications. Because of the refrigerant’s excellent thermodynamic properties and its very low compressor discharge temperature, ZH*KCU models offer a high level of performance, efficiency and a wide operating envelope compared to R407C. They are also classified ATEX Group II.

The Alco Controls™ product range for R290 refrigeration and comfort applications, covering a capacity range from 22 to 120 kW includes products such as Thermo-Expansion valves, hermetic liquid line filter driers, hermetic moisture liquid indicators, solenoid valves, safety pressure switches, pressure transmitters and electrical control valves.

The similarity of R290 and R407C properties - and the fact that the refrigerant charge for R290 is approximately half the charge for R407C - makes system conversion simpler for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). This supports their strategy to offer a natural and environmentally-friendly refrigerant.

As it continues to invest in research and development for residential heating, air conditioning and refrigeration applications to help customers address new challenges, Emerson Climate Technologies will release additional controls and compressor technologies for R290, including variable speed compressors with inverter drives for comfort applications.
