Emergency Medical Plan- Athletics

When an injury occurs that requires emergency services please utilize this information for prompt assistance.
(Door numbers are printed on the outside of the doors in the district)
- When an emergency situation arises beyond the prevention of the staff, determine that the situation is safe to enter, recognize the issue and provide immediate care. Check CBA’s (Circulation, Breathing, Airway) if unconscious and begin chest COMPRESSIONS if suspicious of any absence.
- Contact Certified Athletic Trainer or event coordinator. Do NOT leave injured person alone. First responder becomes the director of the emergency event and will direct people to do specific tasks as listed belowunless the ATC or event coordinator arrives to take over.
- If neck /bone injury is suspected the director of the emergency event will MAINTAIN THE POSITION FOUND with the athlete’s head and neck/ bone.
- If deemed appropriate, FIND AED IF NEEDED FIRST!!! If portable AED is not on athletic trainer’s Ranger (Spring and Fall)or in Athletic Training Room (Winter), other AED’s are located in FHS gymnasium lobby(door number: 28), in Bronner auditorium south hallway(door number: 7), at the convergence of the main hallways at Rittmueller Middle School(office door number:1, gym door number:4), or at the lobby at List Elementary School(door number:1 ).AED should be applied AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if any question of heart issue exists.
- Team FIRST AID KITS are equipped with immediate response items or locate ATC’s first aid kits/ splints in same locations as#3 portable AED. Provide appropriate treatment.
- At director of emergency’s request, CALL 911 from cell phone, or 9-911 from a school telephone or a landline if possible. Give 911 operator all necessary information including:
- Nature of injury
- Address of Frankenmuth High School – 525 E. Genesee St.
-East on Junction/ Genesee St. past Main St.
- Directions to gym/ field/ location where injury has occurred
- FHS gymnasium – East end of high school. South on Park Rd. Enter at quad doors.(Door #: 28. Other door #s: 27 gym itself, 26 southwest hall behind gym.)
- Football field – East end of high school. South on Park Rd. Location south of gymnasium. Two gates located just past gym, or south of football field endzone.
- Soccer/ Softball fields – East on Genesee St. past high school and List elementary school. Enter parking lot just before Rittmueller middle school. Enter fields through gated road at South end of parking lot. Follow signs.
- Baseball field – Travel east past Rittmueller middle school on Genesee St. Turn right just east of the middle school to reach the field. Follow signs.
- Tennis Courts – Enter the parking lot after List Elementary School off of Genesee Street. Proceed to the southwest corner of the parking lot to the paved path to the tennis courts under the lights. Follow signs.
- Golf Course – The Fortress – 950 Flint Street
- Athletic Training Room – Follow same directions for FHS Gymnasium, or enter gate South of FHS gymnasium, and turn north into first ally around west side of gym/ weight room. (Door #: 23)
- High School Cafetorium- same as Athletic Training Room, but use door adjacent to (Door #: 21)
- Rittmueller Middle School Address: 965 East Genesee St.(Gym Door #:4 ) (Main Entrance Door #:1)
- List Elementary School Address: 805 East Genesee St.(Gym Door #:2) (Main Entrance Door #:1 )
- Any other fields/ gyms/ locations where incidents may have occurred may be directed by nearest above location.

- Return to the site of the injury to inform the Certified Athletic Trainer or event coordinator that emergency assistance is on the way. If parents are not present please gather the student athlete’s green medical information sheet from the head coach and contact parents. A parent/ adult chosen by the parent or director of the emergency will accompany the athlete when transported to the appropriate medical facility.
- Please find others to help you flag down and direct the emergency personnel when they arrive.
- If deemed appropriate by the emergency situation, nature of the injury or safety of any individual involved the injured party may be moved to a “safe” location. That location will be passed to those directing the EMS.
- Please have someone control and supervise any spectators/ athletes.
- Media may be dealt with post-event by the administration.
- Staff debriefing/ critical incident stress debriefing will take place post incident as deemed appropriate by the involved personnel.
- Injury Documentation will be directed by the Certified Athletic Trainer/ Athletic Director.
- Return to Play will be coordinated by the Certified Athletic Trainer, parents, coaches and athlete’s doctors when necessary and appropriate.
