Hi Mike,

As you requested, I’ve done some thinking about my next steps to improve my ability to recognize successful student analysis responses.

I intend to:

·  Grade my next analytical assessments with the examples Carol gave me of her students’ successful analytical responses in front of me (to use as a guide for what mastery should look like).

·  Use the results of this first round to inform my later assessments

·  Track the results of mastery for analysis objectives to see if there any improvement

Does that sound right?

Thanks.

Christina

Hey Christina:

Your next steps seem logical to me.

I would suggest that you reach out to Carol ahead of time and ask her if she would be willing to review any of the first round student responses that you receive that raise questions for you. I think conferring with her once more with your students’ actual responses in hand might really help you to clarify the key distinctions between a successful response and a mediocre one.

I would also suggest beginning to think about the connections to P3, E3 and E6. Ultimately we may want to create a plan to assess the impact on those connected rows and improve your facility in them. If we’re right about the underlying factors we identified then I imagine there is also room for improvement in your lesson plans for analysis objectives (P3), your checks for understanding for those objectives (E3), and your ability to collect accurate data (E6).

We should have a follow-up conversation to go over this in a few weeks. Also, before that call I would like for you to send or email me copies of your newest student responses so I can gauge your progress.

Please let me know a time that will work the fourth week of April. Will that give you enough time to complete an assessment cycle?

Best,

Mike

Hi Mike,

I will ask Carol if she’d be willing to do that since you think it would be helpful.

I can talk Wed, April 27th at 4:30 and that gives me enough time to go through two assessment cycles. Does that work for you?

Thanks.

Christina

p.s. Yes--I’ll be sure to send you copies of a few successful student responses beforehand.
