Carolyn, I misread my orientation packet - I will have Hospital Orientation Monday and Tuesday and MediTech training Thursday and Friday. Nursing Orientation is Monday and Tuesday the following week. Will I have a shift on the unit next week? Thank you and sorry for the confusion on my part. Jamie

Jaime, Good morning! I hope orientation is going well. I do have a tentative orientation schedule for you. I’m going to have you orient for a week on day shift so you can meet more of the interdisciplinary team and learn the hospital system more than you likely would on night shift. Next week you could orient to days (7a-730p), on Wednesday or Friday, whichever day works best for you. The following week, orient on days 9/6-9/7. The next week you will orient on night shift on 9/14, 15, and 16. Feel free to come up and say hi as well as get a copy of the schedule when you are on a break. Jaime, I was wondering if you might be interested in teaching infusaport access and care to the new graduate nurses. We have a program for new grads called Ascent, which is a 6-week class, 8 hours per week. A couple of our preceptors on the 11th Floor take turns teaching the Port Care portion, but neither of them are able to this time. It is on September 26th from 2:30-4:30 p.m. We have the supplies and could go over what needs covered. If you can’t, I can get someone else but wanted to see if you would be interested in doing this. Carolyn, I would love to help with your new graduate program. I am free Sept 26th. I'll touch base with you next week when I have a break during Nursing Orientation. I have completed my Meditech training and hope that I can catch on quickly with the charting system. It is quite different than Cerner! Lots of steps! I also had some good practice with the bar code scanner, which we didn't have at Memorial, so I should be fairly comfortable with that after some practice.
I look forward to starting on the floor next Friday - do you know who I will be precepting with?
