1) Why are you interested in being an Eco-Rep? What relevant interests and experiences do you have, and what do you hope to gain from being an Eco-Rep?

2) As an Eco-Rep it is important to understand environmental topics and communicate them effectively to others. One way Eco-Reps communicate with peers is by promoting various sustainability initiatives in the residential neighborhoods. Describe in detail at least one way you would promote a competition to reduce energy use and motivate students in your residential neighborhood to conserve energy.
3) Eco-Reps are educators and leaders. Think about the qualities and skills of effective and successful student leaders you have encountered. What leadership skills do you have in common with these successful student leaders, and how have you developed them? What leadership skills do you want to improve?

ELIGIBILITY
The role of an Eco-Rep is a leadership position at Elon University, which is a privilege and responsibility. Eco-Reps must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher. As indicated in the Elon University Student Handbook, students who are assigned the sanction of “Preliminary Suspension” are not eligible to hold leadership positions for one year from the date of the incident.
Please check the box below to give the Office of Sustainability the permissionto check your eligibility and ensure you meet these requirements.
Yes, I give the Office of Sustainability permission to check my eligibility during the application process and at any point during my employment as an Eco-Rep.

What to Expect from the application process

Applicants will be invited to an interview with the Assistant Director for Education and Outreach and Eco-Rep Coordinator (schedules permitting) on April 3. If necessary, a second interview will take place April 12 or 13 with multiple applicants. The second interview is a College Coffee / Moseley table simulation.

College Coffee / Moseley table simulation Guidelines

Scenario: Imagine you have gotten the job as an Eco-Rep. It’s the beginning of the school year and you have a table at College Coffee, in your neighborhood or in Moseley. The purposes of having a table is to engage peers in habits that support sustainability and let people know what you can do for them as an Eco-Rep. You get to choose how to set up the table, which habit to promote and how to interact with participants.

Set up: This will take place in a classroom, with two desks serving as your table. Current Eco-Reps and Residence Life staff will be your ‘guests’.

Resources: If you wish, you may borrow any of the following items from the Office of Sustainability for use at your table: Frisbees, shower timers, reusable mugs, reusable water bottles, reusable utensils, reusable bags, Kill-a-Watt meters, I heart earth pins.
