The Elmwood Community Garden is a unique project within Elmwood, in that the land on which the garden is placed on is City of Winnipeg owned land. The Elmwood Community Garden Committee has partnered with the City and has agreed to maintain and develop the gardens for the benefit of Elmwood Residents. As a gardener within the Elmwood Community Garden, you play a vital role in helping the gardens develop as a friendly community gathering place that is able to be enjoyed by everyone.

Roles and Responsibilities of Garden Box Holders:

-Plot activity and planting must take place by June 15th 2018 after it is assigned toyou(if no activity takes place in your box, it will be given to the next available gardener).

-I will use organic gardening methods only and will not use chemical fertilizers or other products in my box.

-I will maintain responsibility for weeding my box on a regular basis and not allow weeds to go to seed or cross over into a neighbouring box

-I will be responsible for finding someone to water, weed and maintain my box in the event of absence or vacation.

-I may not sublet my assigned garden box.

-I will contact the Elmwood Community Garden Committee should I no longer wish to maintain my garden box.

-I will be responsible for harvesting my garden, cleaning it out and making my box tidy for the winter by October 15th 2018

Respectful Community Garden Etiquette

-I will encourage and welcome other gardeners in Elmwood Community Garden and be respectful towards them, their families and their gardens

-I will help to maintain the positive appearance of the garden area by picking up garbage and litter in the area

-For safety and security reasons everyone must be able to see and be seen at all times in the community garden.

-The Gardner shall not erect or permit the erection of any building or other structure including fencing and/or vehicular parking area, upon the garden plot nor make any excavation therein nor place any fill thereon without having first obtained the prior written consent of the Elmwood Community Garden Committee,

-Develop the garden plot in strict accordance with the plans as approved by the Elmwood Community Garden committee in a good and workmanlike manner.

-I will not interfere, damage or encroach on other gardeners boxes and their plants

-I will share my knowledge and experience with other gardeners

-I will not consume alcohol, illegal drugs or engage in illegal activities on the garden site

-I will bagor compost all my garden waste and place beside the garbage can and/or compost bin.

-I will contact Elmwood Community Garden Committee in the event I am no longer able to care for my box

Respectful Garden Regulations:

Gardeners are asked to read and abide by the guidelines. Should a violation of guidelines occur the Elmwood Community Garden Committee will take the following actions:

  1. Contact the gardener in question to and a give a verbal warning.
  2. If the concerning situation continues the gardener will receive a written warning sent to the mailing address or emailaddress submitted on the registration.
  3. If the situation persists the gardener will lose their plot for the remainder of the year and will be informed in a letter or email.
  4. The gardener’s opportunity to have a new plot the following season will be reviewed by the Elmwood Community Garden Committee at the beginning of the next season.

I understand and agree to abide by the rules and guidelines of the Elmwood Community Garden. If I breech these conditions I may forfeit the privilege for a garden box in the Elmwood Community Garden for the following growing season.
