Ellough Park Kart Club Championship Specific Race Regulations 2018

1.  The Championship

1.1 The championship will consist of thirteen meetings with the best eleven scores counting towards the championship.

1.2 Points are awarded to club members for each individual race at a meeting; these points are used towards the championship total. Points in timed qualifying and heats are awarded as follows: -

1.3 There will double points for the finals

1.4 Their will no longer be double points for the last round in December, however November and December can NOT be used as a drop round for a non attendance.

1.5 Trophies will be awarded to the top three for each class at each meeting and 1 in 5 for the championship.

1.6 If a driver is disqualified from a race meeting they will score zero points and cannot use that round as a dropped score. If a driver receives a black flag in a heat or final or fail on a technical issue they will score zero points for that particular race but keep the points from the other races that day. They can use that whole round as a dropped score.

2.  Format

2.1 At each race meeting each class will compete over 3 heats and 1 Final.

2.2 Drivers will be entered onto the timing computer and gridded randomly by the computer which is operated by the timekeeper on the day.

2.3 The points accumulated from Heat 1 and Heat 2 and 3 will determine the grid for the Final. If there is a tie on points the driver with the best result from Heat 1 will receive the higher grid position. Points for the championship will be awarded for Heat 1, Heat 2, 3 and the Final.

2.4 A race result can be declared as long as 50% of the race has been completed, full points will be awarded. This can be altered at the Race Directors discretion.

2.5 If a driver starts the race they will receive championship points unless disqualified.

2.6 Practice will be available on the morning of each race day. The amount of practice per class will be determined on how many classes are present on that meeting.

2.7 If drivers are equal on points at any time, this will be decided who has had the first race win or higher finishing in the first heat.

3.  Competitor Eligibility

3.1 Competitors do not require any racing licences.

3.2 New competitors are welcome but must be of a satisfactory standard. It is advised that new competitors attend a practice day before entering a race meeting or prove their ability from racing at another circuit through official printed results..

3.3 Drivers will be allowed to use Motorcycle helmets of a European standard with a visor and must be in good order.

3.4 Drivers must have a race suit (in good order), race boots and gloves. Neck braces/rib protectors are optional but highly recommended.

3.5 All new drivers (Novices) must race on black plates for three meetings before they will be allowed to run on full plates. (they can stay on novice plates longer at the clerk’s discretion)

3.6 Race entries to be submitted with payment by 4.00 pm of the Monday before the race. Race entries submitted after will be charged £20.00 late entry fee. Any entry accepted on race day will be charged with the additional late entry and be gridded at the back of all heats, but allowed to start the final from points obtained from their heats.

4.  Starts

4.1 All Races except for Cadets will be from a rolling start. Drivers will be lined up in grid order on the dummy grid and then sent for one warm-up lap before forming into position before turn 8.

4.2 Drivers must not break formation on the warm-up lap. If any driver spins off or has any other problem on the warm-up lap they may retake their grid position if it is safe to do so before turn 6 (Clintons bridge). It is the driver’s responsibility to re gain their grid position only if safe to do so not obstructing other drivers. If any driver did not make the rolling up lap through mechanical issues on the dummy grid or is not ready, the driver may be held on the dummy grid and allowed to re-join onto the back of the grid at the clerk’s discretion.

4.3 Once the drivers are in position approaching the start/finish line at a steady pace, the red light will be displayed. When the lights turn green the race will begin. Any drivers who break formation before the start/finish/cone line can receive up to a five second penalty.

4.3.1 For Cadet start procedure all karts will be stopped between turns 8-9 and then sent down to the grid in the grid order. Once all karts are formed on the grid the start marshal will point to the digi-flag which will then turn red, once the red light is switched off, the race starts. Drivers do not have to stay in formation once the lights change. Any driver who is deemed to have jumped the start will be issued with a five second penalty at the end of the race, this is at the starters/clerk’s discretion. There will be no false start re-runs.

4.4 If a driver fails to make the dummy grid before the end of the previous race or designated start time, or are not on their grid position when the grid leave for their rolling up lap they must start the race from the back of the grid.

4.5 False starts – Flags will be displayed at post 2 and 3. If pole or the front row are persistent with false starts they can be removed and placed at the back of the grid at the clerk’s discretion.

4.6 If a race is re started after a red flag, the grid order will be from the lap previous to the red flag.

4.7 Rolling up lap will be of 1 lap unless indicated by the clerk or starter, this is to be at a consistent and steady pace and in grid order. The pole sitter and/or front row can or may be moved to the back of the grid at the clerk’s discretion if starts are not acceptable. The pole sitter sets the pace of the grid and once committed to accelerate for the start they must not lessen their speed.

5.  Refuelling

5.1 Fuel must be supplied by the competitors. (fuel may be substituted by officials and held in parc ferme between races).

5.2 No fuel additives must be used, if caught a life time ban will be imposed.

5.3 No refuelling is permitted on the dummy grid.

6. Pit and Paddock

6.1 Drivers must not drive their karts in any area of the paddock. Any driver caught driving in the paddock area will be excluded from the results.

6.2 Only mechanics and drivers can view the circuit from the dummy grid area.

7. Scrutineering

7.1 Drivers must have their kart and racewear scrutineered before taking part in a race. If a kart fails scrutineering it must be fixed and then brought back to be checked before racing.

7.2 At the end of each race the top 3 drivers from each class must come over the scales to be weighed. Any driver who fails to do so will be excluded from the results of that race. If a driver comes in underweight they are allowed two further tries on the scales, if they are still underweight they will be excluded from the results.

7.3 The scrutineer can choose to check any kart at any time for any technical reason.

7.4 At the end of each race all the karts must remain in parc ferme until the gate is opened by the scrutineer. Mechanics or drivers must not open the gate themselves

8. Karts - Engines

8.1 All Karts must meet the technical Safety Regulations and Requirements of the 2018 MSA Rule Book. Please ask Championship Organisers for further details if unclear.

All classes will run to technical engine specifications found in the MSA 2018 guidelines and gold kart book and to fiches from engine manufacturers/promoters as also Honda cadet engine to the latest fiche produced by Kelvin Nichols/Abkc/MSA.

Anything different to those please ask. We sometimes do allow older ancillaries to be used with permission from the clerk if it is not of a safety change or performance gain from the current regulations. IF IN DOUBT PLEASE ASK.

9. Tyres

9.1 All tyres must be as of the 2018 MSA regulations

9.2 Tyre softener is not permitted. If found a life time ban will be enforced.

9.3 One set of tyres per meeting – tyre codes must be written on the scrutineering card before racing and not to be changed unless permission from the scrutineer or clerk.

10. Bodywork

10.1 All karts must be fitted with all bodywork fixings.

10.2 If a kart loses any part of its bodywork during a race the driver must pull off the circuit into parc ferme. If they can repair the bodywork they may re-join the race once inspected by the scrutineer or appointed person.

11. Repairs

11.1 Repairs to karts of any kind must only be undertaken in the parc ferme or paddock area. No repairs are to be made out on the circuit.

12. Driving Standards

12.1 Matters regarding driving standards are solely at the discretion of the clerk of the course.

12.2 All penalties issued will be posted on the results board. It is the drivers responsibility to check their final race positions and if any penalties received. They will not necessarily be announced over the loud speaker systems. Drivers will have 30 minutes from which the penalty has been issued to protest the ruling to the Clerk of The Course.

13. Flags

13.1 The flags used in the championship meetings are: -

Green Flag – Track clear

Green Flag/Yellow Chevron – False start, karts must reform in grid position.

Yellow Flag – Incident ahead, slow down and no overtaking

Red Flag – Race stopped, stop on the track in a safe controlled manner at the designated area or by marshal.

Blue Flag – Faster kart approaching.

Black/White Flag – Warning

Black Flag – Exclusion from race

Black with Orange circle Flag – Mechanical, return to Parc Ferme immediate

White Flag – Caution, slow moving vehicle on track

Chequered Flag – Race finished, proceed slowly to the pits. NO overtaking.

Yellow and Black Flag ( Battenberg ) Slow down and form a que behind race leader , no overtaking until green flag

13.2 All flag signals can be displayed by either the marshals or by the ‘digi-flag’ located at startline

14. Front drop down bumpers - A 10 second penalty will be applied to any kart with the front nose cone displaced when inspected by the scrutineer or official.

14.1 All nose cones are to be presented to the dummy grid marshal detached with no fixings on them.

14.2 Any person seen to be tampering to re set the front bumper will be excluded from the meeting.

14.3 Additional penalties to the drop down bumper penalty can and will be applied at the clerk’s discretion for driver contact and or poor driving standards.

15.1 Conduct

15.1 Drivers and associated persons are required to behave in a civil and polite way always. Ellough Park will not tolerate and verbal or physical abuse towards its own staff and other competitors or associated persons. Any person found to be behaving in this way will be removed from the area along with driver/team/parents and not allowed any further involvement at the circuit. Any physical abuse will be passed onto the police.

15.2 Any persons found to be publishing non-sports person like comments on social media will be banned from Ellough Park.

15.3 Any persons found to be causing damage to the circuit will be removed from the circuit with the possibility of criminal damage proceedings and a lifelong ban for them and their associates..

16 Kart Recovery

Karts that have stopped on the circuit are to be recovered by the driver/assistant using their own trolley. Permission must be obtained by a member of EP staff to enter onto the circuit once racing has finished. The trolley and a person must be ready to go onto the circuit by the time the chequered flag has gone out. Drivers that do not have a trolley ready may be required to wait until the next race is run before recovery. All karts need to go back through scrutineering unless told otherwise

17. Clerk

The clerk’s decision is final and is judge of fact.

As from 1st Jan 2018 the clerk of the course has implemented a drive through penalty,

Depending on the severity of the incident…..the driver could be held at the clerk of the course discretion.
