Ella Irene Stokes

STOKES Ella Irene Stokes, 100, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2010. She was born on a farm in Macon, Georgia on September 20, 1909 to the late Ernest Patrick and Mary Lou Pearl Holt. She was the salutatorian of her high school class and upon graduation was awarded a teaching certificate but she could not use it because she was only 17. She met her future husband at church during her senior year and a year and a half after dating, they were married. Her husband was employed by the Southern Railroad and they moved to Jacksonville where they raised their three sons. Being very busy at home, she was also an active member the Methodist church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She taught piano and spent years volunteering as a "Pink Lady" at the old RiversideHospital. Mrs. Stokes is preceded in death by her husband W. H. Stokes and son John Ernest Stokes. Survivors include her sons, William E. (Miriam) and Robert M. (Alcie) Stokes; brother, Charlie G. Holt; grandchildren, John R. Stokes, Carolyn Moore, David Stokes, Vicki J. Andrews, Linda James Millet, Miriam Doreen Cantrell, Robert L. Stokes, Daniel R. Stokes and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, June 21, 2010 at SouthsideUnitedMethodistChurch with Pastor Bruce Jones officiating. George Stokes DARLINGTON - George Henry Stokes, age 77, died Friday, July 16, 2010 at the McLeod Hospice House. Funeral Services are 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 18 in the Chapel of Belk Funeral Home with internment following in Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery, Florence, SC. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Born June 17, 1933 in FlorenceCounty, he is the son of the late Foster W. Stokes and Edith Jernigan Stokes Anderson. Mr. Stokes served his country in the Air Force, and then worked for Dar-lington Veneer until his retirement. Prior to his residency at Medford Nursing Home, George enjoyed going fishing. He also loved spending time with his family. He was a member of HighHillBaptistChurch. Surviving are his sister, Carrie S. STOKES, IDA MAE (NEE REAVES) 78 - of Vineland, went home to be with the Lord suddenly on Friday. July 9 at her home. Ida was born the 7th of 14 children on June 22, 1932 to the late Rev. Noah and Sweetie Bell Reaves in Chunky, Mississippi. Ida has been a resident of Vineland for over 50 years. Ida accepted the Lord at an early age and later re-dedicated her life to Christ at the St. PaulMissionaryBaptistChurch in Vineland, where she has been a faithful member for many years. Ida was educated in the Norma and VinelandSchool Districts. She later went to work for the VinelandDevelopmentalCenter as a Cottage Trained Supervisor until her retirement in 1994. She loved the Lord, her family and her church family.
