Elizabethtown Emmaus Community,
Thank you to the E-town and Chrysalis Community for your support of Walks # 116 and #117. Your work and preparation before, during and after the Walks helped support a very meaningful and successful spiritual experience for the new pilgrims. Special thanks to Charles Young and Portia Oldham and their teams for their lead of the walks. The Lord was surely present during the weekends as the fall colors and warm weather made for an amazing display of God’s handiwork with the outdoors. At closing, the pilgrims shared from their hearts how the weekend touched their lives forever.
Congratulations to Kevin Oldham and Carolyn Cox as they begin their preparation for Men’s Walk #118 and Women’s Walk #119, which will take place in the spring of 2011. Let’s begin bathing them in prayer as they begin planning this very important and meaningful work. We are so thankful for their leadership and willingness to serve.
Please also pray for Rachel Bauer and Casey Drane and their team as they make the final preparations for Chrysalis # 46, which will take place on October 30 through November 1. Sendoff will take place on Saturday morningat 9:00am, October 30 and Closing will take place on Monday, November 1 at 5:00pm. Please be with Chrysalis #46 through your prayers and support of activities throughout the weekend.
Please join us at the November Gathering at Memorial United Methodist Church on November 6 at 7:00pm. The pilgrims of Walks #116 and #117 along with the butterflies of Chrysalis #46 will have the opportunity to share with the Emmaus Community how their Fourth Days are going. The event is called Open Microphone, or“Open Mic”, for short. In addition, there will be a time of fellowship, desserts and snacks afterward. If you are so led, please bring your favorite desserts or snacks and 2- liter drinks to share with each other. (Coffee will be provided.) We will have time to fellowship and share snacks in the church dining area as we welcome the new pilgrims and butterflies to the Community. Child care for the evening will be pre-paid by the Emmaus Community and is available in the church nursery and gymnasium. There was very positive feedback from the Community when this was done in April following the Spring Walks. Please join us on November 6 at 7:00pm for worship, fellowship and food!
MY family and I spent some time at Myrtle Beach in South Carolina a few weeks ago for Fall Break. The weather was phenomenal – bathing suit temperatures during the day and sweatshirt temperatures at night. It was wonderful to hear the waves crashing on the beach as we settled down each evening for sleep in our camper. It was fulfilling to take time away from our hectic lifestyle to just relax, spend time with family and enjoy the wonderful outdoors created by God. My favorite morning during Fall Break occurred whenmy wife, Pauline, and I decided to watch the sun rise over the ocean. While it was still dark out, we settled our lawn chairs onto the beach and had coffee cups in hand. We were bundled up with
sweatshirts and jackets to stay warm. To our surprise, there were many people gathered at the ocean’s edge for just the very same reason. We were not disappointed as the colors began to appear. First there was a faint light in the distance across the width of the ocean. Then bright orange color began to appear and finally a blazing orange ball began to shine across the ocean as it appeared to rise out of the water and growlarger and larger in the horizon. What an exhilaratingfeeling to witness such an amazing sight! This was a very close moment for me as I thanked God for allowing me to witness his beautiful handy work that morning. God’s handy work is everywhere if we will just take the time to slow down and enjoy it.
Please join me in saying good bye and farewell to a friend of the Emmaus and REC Community. Ed Holthouser passed away and joined our Lord on Monday morning, 10/25/10. Please pray for God to comfort the Holthouser family during this difficult time. It is comforting to know that we will see Ed again when we pass into glory ourselves.
De Colores,
Tom Crittenden
