Commentary to link your assertion and evidence and the author’s purpose / Elie Wiesel in his 2001 speech at the Nobel Centennial Symposia was timely. The new millennium was fairly recent and Wiesel took this opportunity to charge an international audience to make a positive impact on the coming years. Wiesel used his own experiences in the Holocaust, his own hopes and fears, to discuss the last century along with discussing international heroes and their own struggles. His emotionally tinged discussion centered on eliminating the negatives. One can see from the video that Wiesel makes a compelling argument. He looks worn and haggard which confirms the import of his commitment to changing the world. It is clear that Wiesel does not let the circumstances in own his life create a bitter, self-centered man but on the contrary to use his own experiences to change the world. Elie Wiesel drives his audience to a shared purpose; the betterment of humanity.
