National Energy Marketers Association

Elects National, State and Regional Policy Leadership

Association Draws on Experts Throughout the Energy Industry

NEW YORK – The National Energy Marketers Association (NEMA) executive committee gathered in Chicago in July to elect the leadership of their Federal, State and Regional Policy Committees. Kevin Stoffer of Illinois-based Nicor Energy was elected as chair of the executive committee, with Matt Picardi of New York-based Niagara Mohawk serving as vice chair.

“This is an exciting time in the energy industry, we are literally making history and our newly elected policy leadership represents the brightest minds and the most broad-based experience in the industry,” said Craig Goodman, president and CEO of NEMA. “The success of the new competitive energy market will rely heavily on whether energy can be sold and delivered across the country in a simple, cost-effective manner. Our new policy chairs bring the expertise and leadership to help national state and regional lawmakers restructure the markets for natural gas, electricity and the value-added services and technologies that are needed in the marketplace.”

“I am honored that the group selected me to chair its executive committee. It is vital that regulators and policymakers understand what it will take to successfully restructure the markets for natural gas and electricity,” explained Kevin Stoffer, chair of NEMA’s executive committee and president and CEO of Nicor Energy. “Today, hundreds of separate and different rules apply to how energy is sold, metered, billed and delivered. NEMA’s mission is to bring down the cost of delivering energy to every consumer and I think we have the right leadership team in place to get the job done.”

In addition to executive committee chairs being elected, several other key positions were voted upon. Peter Esposito with Dynegy was named chair of the Federal Policy committee with Barry Green of Ontario Power Generation serving as co-chair, as well as heading the committee for cross border and Canadian issues. Other policy leadership posts were filled by Bill Hoatson, Amerada Hess, Mike Meath of Agway Energy; Mac McCay ofSempra Energy; Jon Gipson of Shamrock Energy; Karen O’Neil of Green Mountain; Greg Lizak of Itron/Star Data Systems; Chris Bernard of Entergy Power Marketing; Jeff Bandman of Prebon Energy; Steven Sherman of Proliance;
