Electronic Data Processing
1. Data and information
1.1 Data consists of all (raw facts) in the form of figure, numbers, letter of words.
1.2 Information is the processed (已處理的) data which is (meaningful) (有意義的) and useful.
Data = Raw Fact
Information = Data + Process

3. Advantage (好處) of Electronics Data Processing
3.2. / Accurate (準確): / Human errors and careless mistakes can be (avoided) (避免).
3.3 / Available (可用的): / Data can be stored and (retrieved) (讀取) easily.
3.4. / Storage (Capacity) (容量): / Some data need to be stored for future use and the amount may be very large.

4.1 Payroll system (工資計算)
A (payroll) (工資表) system is a system that calculates employee's (wages/salary) (工資) and produces payroll sheets that are given to employees.

4.2. Ticketing (電腦售票)
A ticketing system is a system that is designed for booking tickets.
I. The computer (display) (顯示) the available (可用的) seats on the screen.
II. An operator (操作員) enters the seat number(s).
III. The computer updates (更新) the file by (deleting) (刪除) the number of seat(s) booked (預訂).
IV. A computer-printed ticket is then issued (發出).
4.3. Point-of-Sale (POS: 銷售點)
A point of sale system is a system used to update sales and (inventory) (存貨) data.
I. A POS system is installed (安裝) at the checkout counter (收銀處).
II. The cashier (收銀員) uses a (bar code scanner) (條碼掃描器) to read the bar codes on the product.
III. POS find the product name and unit price from the central computer.
IV. POS calculated (計算) the total charges and print the receipt.
4.4 Electronic Fund Transfer (電子轉賬)
An electronic fund transfer system is a system allowing electronic transfer of money from one (account) (戶口) to another.
I. A customer pays the books by (automatic teller machine) ATM (自動櫃員機) card.
II. A cashier (requests) (要求) the customer to select the bank account (戶口) and enter personal (identification) (認明) number (PIN).
III. The computer system (verifies) (對證) the PIN and checks the bank (account balance) (收支平衡).
IV. If there is (sufficient) (足夠) money, the amount will be transferred form the customer's bank account to the bookstore's bank account.
4.5. Mailing List (郵寄名單)
A mailing list system is used to store data for future mailing.

Ø Computerization is (suitable) (適合) for large amount of (data).
2. Cost of Computerization (電腦化的成本)
Ø Computerization is a very costly (investment) (投資).
Ø It is worthwhile (值得) only the (benefits) (得益) are greater than the cost.
3. Important of (Accuracy) (準確)
Ø If data required high accuracy, it is better to choose computerization system.
4. Acceptance (接受) of using computer
Ø Users must be willing to learn using computer.
